St. John Paul II’s Ideas of Dialogue between the Church and Science
2016
Systemic Development of Service Innovation
2015
This chapter explores the intrinsic characteristics of services and service systems and presents systemic approach to produce service innovations. The chapter consists of elaborating the characteristics of services and the principles of systemic development, discussing service matrixes, service systems, service strategies and business models, and special challenges related to the development of services and service innovations. Services are always produced in service systems consisting of combination of service personnel and information systems. Customers are involved in these systems by interacting with the front end of service organization. The key issue in service development and innovat…
Hierarchical and non-hierarchical clustering methods to study students algebraic thinking in solving an open-ended questionnaire
2017
The problem of taking a data set and separating it into subgroups, where the members of each subgroup are more similar to each other than they are to members outside the subgroup, has been extensively studied in science and mathematics education research. Student responses to written questions and multiple-choice tests have been characterised and studied using several qualitative and/or quantitative analysis methods. However, there are inherent difficulties in the categorisation of student responses in the case of open-ended questionnaires. Very often, researcher bias means that the categories picked out tend to find the groups of students that the researcher is seeking out. In our contribu…
Dwelling and COVID-19
2022
The recent pandemic has made more evident the many unsolved cruxes of the human dwelling on earth that, for decades, have been ignored. The urban condition forcibly metaphysical and the over-compressed domestic one, determined by the lockdown period, provided more obvious connotations to a well-known situation. The SARS– Cov–2 and the COVID–19 viruses are, in chronological order, merely the last signal that the World has released, making more straightforward an extreme situation. Which is the difference with similar phenomena of the recent past? Certainty, a greater virus spread, if compared to other epidemics, and several deaths that keep growing in some areas of the planet, unfortunately,…
Design of the seismic retrofit of a school in accordance to a life cycle thinking approach
2018
The public consciousness of the seismic risk is continuously increasing, although the damage on existing and older buildings due to earthquakes is still high, due to a former structural design not accounting for the latest knowledge achieved in the seismic field. This is particularly true considering the damage recorded in the last earthquakes that hit Central Italy in August and October 2016. The paper deals with the repair actions required in the elementary school of Pievebovigliana (Macerata-Italy) after the aforementioned seismic events. The school is a one-story building characterized by an irregular plan layout; masonry walls with regular blocks are the main supporting structure. An a…
The effects of mental rotation on computational thinking
2019
Abstract Although several investigations of spatial reasoning and mental rotation skills have been conducted in research areas linked to STEM education, to the best of our knowledge, few of these studies have examined the relationship between spatial reasoning and computational thinking. Given this gap in the literature, the present study investigates the role and action of spatial reasoning, and specifically the effects of mental rotation on computational thinking within an embodied and enacted perspective. To achieve this, we carried out a study involving 92 students in five primary-school classes (1st grade - 5th grade). The findings reveal a positive correlation between computational th…
2022
Italian translation of a German work on a general clauses which marked a stage in the debate on subject
Spazializzazione
2013
Rather than focusing on the countryside and on some particular objects of the rural world, in our contribution we concentrate on a “thinking by new concepts”. Following the example of Deleuze, by opting for a refusal of neutralizing forms of representations, we devised a concept – spaction – in order to show the relationships that should be established nowadays between a rural world and the dynamics of people, spaces and museums.
