Requirements for using simulation to design and assess wireless ATM handover solutions

1999

Wireless ATM (WATM) has been widely considered as a solution for broadband wireless services. Handover is one of the most important mobility support functions in the WATM network. Many handover solutions have been proposed, analysed, and benchmarked. Simulations have been broadly used to assess these solutions. However, there are many dilemmas in how simulation has been applied as a research methodology: heterogeneous simulation systems used, lack of comparison with other related work, biased conclusions, and unavailability of simulation models and systems to researchers. The WATM research community lacks a standard and commonly acceptable methodology for applying simulation. To address thi…

Analysis of the performance of the TES algorithm over urban areas

2014

International audience; The temperature and emissivity separation (TES) algorithm is used to retrieve the land surface emissivity (LSE) and land surface temperature (LST) values from multispectral thermal infrared sensors. In this paper, we analyze the performance of this methodology over urban areas, which are characterized by a large number of different surface materials, a variability in the lowest layer of the atmospheric profiles, and a 3-D structure. These specificities induce errors in the LSE and LST retrieval, which should be quantified. With this aim, the efficiency of the TES algorithm over urban materials, the atmospheric correction, and the impact of the 3-D architecture of urb…

Association of Arthroscopically-Assisted Latissimus Dorsi Tendon Transfer with Implantation of a Subacromial Balloon Spacer for Patients with Irrepar…

2022

Purpose. Massive irreparable posterosuperior rotator cuff tears in an active population, resulting in a pseudo-paralytic shoulder, pose a challenge for the orthopaedic surgeon. In an effort to avoid or delay arthroplasty surgery, other surgical strategies such as arthroscopically-assisted latissimus dorsi transfer (aLDT) or the implantation of a subacromial spacer (SAS) can be considered. The aim of the present study is to associate, for the first time, these two surgical procedures in order to demonstrate the surgical feasibility and the effectiveness of their synergistic biomechanical effect. Methods. The study group consisted of patients who underwent aLDT for a massive irreparable poste…

Sulfur transfer and activation by ubiquitin-like modifier system Uba4•Urm1 link protein urmylation and tRNA thiolation in yeast.

2017

Urm1 is a unique dual-function member of the ubiquitin protein family and conserved from yeast to man. It acts both as a protein modifier in ubiquitin-like urmylation and as a sulfur donor for tRNA thiolation, which in concert with the Elongator pathway forms 5-methoxy-carbonyl-methyl-2-thio (mcm5s2) modified wobble uridines (U34) in anticodons. Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model to study a relationship between these two functions, we examined whether cultivation temperature and sulfur supply previously implicated in the tRNA thiolation branch of the URM1 pathway also contribute to proper urmylation. Monitoring Urm1 conjugation, we found urmylation of the peroxiredoxin Ahp1 is suppre…

kLa MEASUREMENT IN BIOREACTORS

2010

For accurately measuring kLa in bioreactors the dynamic pressure method (DPM) was introduced by Linek et al. (1993). In this work a simplified version of the same method is discussed. With respect to the original DPM, the simplified version greatly simplifies data treatment. In fact final constant slope observable in the usual semi-log diagram of residual driving force versus time may be simply corrected to obtain the real kLa value with negligible inaccuracy. Experimental data obtained on a lab-size stirred tank reactor confirm all model predictions, including the feature that the adoption of large pressure changes may lead to a better accuracy.

Sensitivity of aerosol radiative effects to different mixing assumptions in the AEROPT 1.0 submodel of the EMAC atmospheric-chemistry–climate model

2014

Abstract. The modelling of aerosol radiative forcing is a major cause of uncertainty in the assessment of global and regional atmospheric energy budgets and climate change. One reason is the strong dependence of the aerosol optical properties on the mixing state of aerosol components, such as absorbing black carbon and, predominantly scattering sulfates. Using a new column version of the aerosol optical properties and radiative-transfer code of the ECHAM/MESSy atmospheric-chemistry–climate model (EMAC), we study the radiative transfer applying various mixing states. The aerosol optics code builds on the AEROPT (AERosol OPTical properties) submodel, which assumes homogeneous internal mixing …

"The Influence of Accountancy Data on the Transfer Pricing Policy in Romania"

2020

When adopting the transfer pricing policy, tax affects not only the company, but also the main indicators of performance, cash flow and business strategy. Through the transfer pricing policy, which is actually a commercial policy of the company in relation to related parties, methods for determining prices in the future are established, related party transactions, complying with the principle of market value. This article also presents practical elements on the harmonization and fiscal accounting principles in the field of related party transactions, so as to ensure a better management of tax risk. Also, it seeks clarification of conceptual and practical aspects of transfer pricing, welcome…

Trial Watch: Adoptively transferred cells for anticancer immunotherapy

2017

IF 7.719; International audience; Immunotherapies aimed at strengthening immune effector responses against malignant cells are growing at exponential rates. Alongside, the impressive benefits obtained by patients with advanced melanoma who received adoptively transferred tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have encouraged the scientific community to pursue adoptive cell transfer (ACT)-based immunotherapy. ACT involves autologous or allogenic effector lymphocytes that are generally obtained from the peripheral blood or resected tumors, expanded and activated ex vivo, and administered to lymphodepleted patients. ACT may be optionally associated with chemo- and/or immunotherapeutics, with th…

Control of Murine Cytomegalovirus Infection by γδ T Cells

2015

Infections with cytomegalovirus (CMV) can cause severe disease in immunosuppressed patients and infected newborns. Innate as well as cellular and humoral adaptive immune effector functions contribute to the control of CMV in immunocompetent individuals. None of the innate or adaptive immune functions are essential for virus control, however. Expansion of γδ T cells has been observed during human CMV (HCMV) infection in the fetus and in transplant patients with HCMV reactivation but the protective function of γδ T cells under these conditions remains unclear. Here we show for murine CMV (MCMV) infections that mice that lack CD8 and CD4 αβ-T cells as well as B lymphocytes can control a MCMV i…
