La fraseologia com a tret estilístic en novel·les originals en anglés i les seues traduccions al català

2018

This paper is an analysis of the stylistic function of phraseology in three contemporary novels, originally written in English —Enduring Love, by Ian McEwan; The Road, by Cormac McCarthy; and Midnight’s Children, by Salman Rushdie—, and their corresponding translations into Catalan —Amor perdurable, La carretera and Els fills de la mitjanit. Taking into account some theoretical reflections on phraseology and translation, and by comparing the original novels and their translations, in this article we analyze some examples of phraseological units (PUs) that play a significant stylistic role and we also examine the techniques used by professional translators when faced with this sort of PUs. E…

Multidisciplinarietat en traducció audiovisual

2012

The two pillars around which the breaking up of monodisciplinarity is reorganized, in Ostreng’s words, can be said to apply to, and portray, the evolution of Translation Studies (TS) and Audiovisual Translation Studies (AVTS). The hybridization and fragmentation of the “parent discipline” (TS), as a consequence of its very expansion and contamination, has in turn resulted in the emergence of sub-disciplines. AVTS, as a derivative research field, has soon achieved the “status” of a full-fledged discipline, attracting numerous researchers and leading to the organization of countless conferences, seminars, university courses and publications. Subsequently, the coming of age of AVTS in the last…

Apocryphal Passions of the Apostles in Croatian Glagolitic Texts

2020

In the course of the Middle Ages, apocryphal and hagiographic texts of The Acts of the Apostles of various origins became part of the Croatian Glagolitic literature. The Passion of Saint Andrew, for example, is documented in the sanctorale of nineteen Croatian Glagolitic breviaries dating from the period between the 14th and mid-16th centuries. The Glagolitic Passion is an abbreviated translation of the Latin Epistula presbyterorum et diaconorum Achaiae (BHL 428) from the 6th century. The texts of the Passion of Jamesthe Apostle (Jacobus Maior, apost., filius Zebedaei, frater Johannis, Passio, BHL 4057) are found in two Glagolitic breviaries, namely the Breviary of Vitus of Omi?alj (1396) a…

Les traductions latines de textes hagiographiques byzantins de la période médio-byzantine

2019

The present article attempts to record and present as much as possible the Latin translations of hagiographical texts during the Middle Byzantine period. The texts are first approached from a literary point of view, then a historical presentation is attempted, referring to their possible functional use in the traditions of the two churches, Constantinople and Rome.

Terminología y traducción económica francés-español: evaluación de recursos terminológicos en el ámbito contable

2014

The aim of this paper is to evaluate a series of terminology resources and determine their suitability to the practice of French-Spanish translation of accounting documents. First we identify the terminology needs of a specific group of translator trainees when facing business translation, as well as the resources they use particularly when translating annual accounts. Then, we select various terminology resources used in this context and evaluate them according to their needs. The results suggest the development of a French-Spanish dictionary of accounting terms adapted to the terminology needs of the practice of translation in this area.

A deficiency of documentation in translation historiography in Spain: reflections about performed but unpublished (Austrian) theatre

2013

The aim of this paper is to underline the importance of recovering translated but not published literature in Spain so as to contribute exhaustively to translation history. We refer specifically to the translation recovery of those theatre plays that arrive in Spain temporarily through various performances, thus becoming the only means of reception. This paper classifies this kind of translation and weighs up the alterations that are made to it during the staging. This article is the English version of “Un déficit documental en la historiografía de la traducción en España: consideraciones acerca del teatro (austriaco) representado y no editado” by Elena Serrano Bertos. It was not published …

Galician women translators in the 20th century: rewriting the history of translation from a gender and national approach

2011

This article is the English version of “Traductoras gallegas del siglo XX: Reescribiendo la historia de la traducción desde el género y la nación” by Olga Castro. It was not published on the print version of MonTI for reasons of space. The online version of MonTI does not suffer from these limitations, and this is our way of promoting plurilingualism. Within the newly established field of Galician Studies, Feminist Theory has played a major role in revealing how women have contributed to the development of the Galician cultural polysystem. However, it is my contention that the translative facet of many women translators has not yet received enough critical attention. Therefore, within the f…

UV-induced cross-linking of proteins to plasmid pBR322 containing 8-azidoadenine 2′-deoxyribonucleotides

1988

Abstract An efficient method of cross-linking DNA to protein is described. The method is based on the incorporation of photoactive 8-azidoadenine 2′-deoxyribonucleotides into DNA. We have found that 8-N 3 dATP is a substrate for E. coli DNA polymerase I and that 8-N 3 dATP can be incorporated into plasmid pBR322 by nick-translation. Subsequently we were able to cross-link a set of different proteins to 8-azido-2′-deoxyadenosine-containing pBR322 by UV irradiation (366 nm). No DNA-protein photocross-linking was observed under the same conditions when the non-photoactive plasmid pBR322 was used.
