Stance bundles in English-to-Polish Translation: a Corpus-Informed Study

In this paper, we make an attempt to improve the textual fit of English-to-Polish translation of a peculiar type of multi-word units known in corpus linguistic literature as lexical bundles (Biber et al. 1999). Inspired by a study conducted by Grabar and Lefer (2015), we used the English-Polish parallel corpus Paralela (Pęzik 2016) and the National Corpus of Polish (NKJP) to extract and explore the use — in terms of frequency distributions — of the Polish equivalents of selected English lexical bundles expressing attitudinal and epistemic stance. Mašīntulkošanas ietekme tulkošanas jomā ir krietni pieaugusi, taču literāru tekstu tulkošanā tā tiek izmantota reti to sarežģītības dēļ. Šī maģistra darba mērķis ir salīdzināt literāru tekstu mašīntulkojumus ar cilvēka tulkojumiem un analizēt, kāda varētu būt tās iespējamā loma šajā tulkošanas apakšnozarē. Šī darba praktiskajā daļā romānu fragmentu mašīntulkojumi tika salīdzināti ar cilvēku tulkotiem tekstiem divos valodu pāros. Tekstu kvalitāte tika novērtēta, izmantojot manuālu lingvistisko, kā arī automātisko metodi. Tämän proseminaarityön tarkoituksena oli tutkia minkälaisia käännösratkaisuja on hyödynnetty suomennettaessa henkilönimiä Terry Pratchettin kirjassa Lords and Ladies (suomeksi Herraskaista väkeä). Tarkoitus oli selvittää, onko käännösratkaisut valikoitu jonkin tietyn säännönmukaisuuden perusteella. Aineistona tässä tutkimuksessa oli asianomainen romaani, sekä alkuperäiskielisenä versiona että suomenkielisenä käännöksenä. I argue that the mediation of Hungarian literature, a supply-driven activity, is an interactive social event influenced by factors including power, dominance and economics. Physical therapists have used continuing education as a method of improving their skills in conducting clinical examination of patients with low back pain (LBP). The purpose of this study was to evaluate how well the pathoanatomical classification of patients in acute or subacute LBP can be learned and applied through a continuing education format. The necessity of improving the health and quality of life of subjects affected by diverse injuries and chronic diseases, has led to develop a new branch of translational medicine, called Regenerative Medicine (RegMed). RegMed has the principal objects of restoring, maintaining or enhancing structures and functions of tissues and organs. In order to achieve these goals, the RegMed researchers have proposed and tested diverse approaches. The Stem Cell Therapy represents the central focus of RegMed, even if its applications may imply the onset of adverse conditions.
