An isoperimetric type problem for primitive Pythagorean hodograph curves

An isoperimetric type problem for primitive Pythagorean hodograph curves is studied. We show how to compute, for each possible degree, the Pythagorean hodograph curve of a given perimeter enclosing the greatest area. We also discuss the existence and construction of smooth solutions, obtaining a relationship with an interesting sequence of Appell polynomials.

Differential changes in purine nucleotides after Doxorubicin treatment of human cancer cells in vitro

The present investigation was performed to elucidate the role of purine nucleotides as potential indicators of chemosensitivity of malignant tumors. Drug-sensitive (s) and -resistant (r) tumor cell lines grown as monolayers (s: T47D, MCF-7 wild-type; r: NCI/ADR-RES, MCF-7/MDR) or as multicellular spheroids (T47D; NCI/ADR-RES) were exposed to 0.1, 1.0, and 10.0 microM Doxorubicin for up to 24 h. Purine nucleotides were assayed using HPLC and with some selected spheroids using imaging bioluminescence. The GRP94 Inhibitor PU-WS13 Decreases M2-like Macrophages in Murine TNBC Tumors: A Pharmaco-Imaging Study with 99mTc-Tilmanocept SPECT

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive subtype of breast cancers and is not eligible for hormone and anti-HER2 therapies. Identifying therapeutic targets and associated biomarkers in TNBC is a clinical challenge to improve patients’ outcome and management. High infiltration of CD206+ M2-like macrophages in the tumor microenvironment (TME) indicates poor prognosis and survival in TNBC patients. Clathrin-independent entry of baculovirus triggers uptake of E. coli in non-phagocytic human cells

The prototype baculovirus, Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus, an insect pathogen, holds great potential as a gene therapy vector. To develop transductional targeting and gene delivery by baculovirus, we focused on characterizing the nature and regulation of its uptake in human cancer cells. Baculovirus entered the cells along fluid-phase markers from the raft areas into smooth-surfaced vesicles devoid of clathrin. Contextuality Analysis of the Double Slit Experiment (With a Glimpse Into Three Slits)

The Contextuality-by-Default theory is illustrated on contextuality analysis of the idealized double-slit experiment. The experiment is described by a system of contextually labeled binary random variables each of which answers the question: has the particle hit the detector, having passed through a given slit (left or right) in a given state (open or closed)? This system of random variables is a cyclic system of rank 4, formally the same as the system describing the EPR/Bell paradigm with signaling. Structural dynamics in F1ATPase during the first reaction cycle of ATP hydrolysis

Abstract The velocity of ATP hydrolysis, catalyzed by purified F 1 ATPase from Micrococcus luteus , was decelerated on decreasing the temperature. At 13′C one reaction cycle is completed after 20 s. Hydrolysis was triggered upon rapid mixing of the enzyme with ATP. During the first reaction cycle, succeeding structural alterations of the F 1 ATPase were traced by time resolved X-ray scattering. The scattering spectra obtained from consecutive intervals of 1 s, revealed the F 1 ATPase to pass a conformational state exhibiting an expanded (6%) molecular shape.
