2020

Religious plurality in the era of globalization is a necessity in the midst of cultural heterogeneity, religious expression and religion itself. Religious plurality has a very large potential and role in the process of integrating the development of the Indonesian nation in the future. However, on the other hand, religious plurality contains the potential for conflict and disintegration of the nation, because the dominance of the absolute truth claims of each religion so that emotions become the basis of interaction and communication. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CITIZENS’ TRUST IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PARTICIPATION IN LOCAL GOVERNANCE

2021

The article analyses the relationship between citizens’ trust in local government institutions and participation in local governance. The research results have revealed that citizens’ trust in local government is still low and participation lacks activeness. Civic participation is more active than political participation. According to the research results, the main reasons of absence of participation in local governance are lack of information and knowledge about public participation, lack of information about participation opportunities, lack of communication and response to expressed opinion and suggestions. The results of quantitative research showed that participation and trust dimensio…

PUBLIC TRUST AND PARTICIPATION DEPENDING ON ETHNICITY IN LATVIA

2014

Low public trust in public power institutions is still an urgent problem among the Member States of the European Union. According to the latest Standard Eurobarometer 80 data, the trust continues decreasing. In Latvia trust indicators are also markedly low - 17% residents of Latvia trust in the national parliament, 21% - in the government, but the indicator of trust in political parties is explicitly critical - it constitutes only 6%. Since the Eurobarometer research only includes citizens' opinion, we can assume that the trust indicators are even lower. The population of Latvia consists of the Latvians, who are the titular nation - 59.6%, the Russians - 27% and other national minorities, f…

Does social capital matter for European regional growth?

2015

Abstract This paper analyzes the role of different elements of social capital in economic growth for a sample of 85 European regions during the period 1995–2008. Despite the remarkable progress that social capital and European regional economic growth literatures have experienced over the last two decades, initiatives combining the two are few, and entirely yet to come for the post-1990s period. Recent improvements in data availability allow this gap in the literature to be closed, since they enable the researcher to consider the traditionally disregarded Eastern and Central European (ECE) regions. This is particularly interesting, as they are all transition economies that recently joined t…

El papel de la formalización y la confianza organizacional como antecedentes de ambidestreza: una investigación sobre la industria agroalimentaria or…

2020

This article investigates the influence of specific key organizational factors (i.e., enabling formalization, coercive formalization, and trust) as antecedents of ambidexterity. Moreover, we propose a new way of operationalizing ambidexterity, under a holistic vision, including the synergies between exploration and exploitation. The study has been developed in the Spanish organic agro-food industry; a total of 239 usable responses were received from two respondents from each company—the general manager and the quality manager. The findings show that enabling formalization and organizational trust are positively related to ambidexterity, but contrary to our predictions, we found no evidence …

The importance of green practices for hotel guests: does gender matter?

2021

Due to growing consumer awareness of environmental problems, more and more hotels have been developing green practices in response to the environmental concerns of their guests and improve their image. This study aimed to test a model for analyzing the incidence of green practices as drivers for generating positive hotel image and guest trust and satisfaction, evaluating the moderating role of guest gender in these relationships. Based on a personal survey of 302 guests at 3 and 4-star hotels in Bogotá, evidence was obtained for the positive relationship between sustainable practices and the variables considered, with certain differences depending on the gender of each guest. Thus, this stu…

Drivers of social commerce usage: a multi-group analysis comparing Facebook and Instagram

2020

Social media are increasingly used as platforms to not only socialise but also to shop for products and services. Social commerce is the new trend in e-commerce that leverages the enhanced consumer-to-consumer interactions to support shopping processes. Based on the concept of social commerce constructs suggested by Nick Hajli, this article investigates the role of social commerce constructs, emotional and informative support, and trust as drivers of social commerce intention. We apply multi-group analysis to validate the drivers of social commerce for two of the most relevant social media platforms: Facebook and Instagram. Based on a sample of 800 social commerce users, our findings reveal…

Understanding lacking trust in global software teams: A multi-case study

2007

Many organizations have turned toward globally distributed software development in their quest for higher-quality software delivered cheaply and quickly. But this kind of development has often been reported as problematic and complex to manage. One of the fundamental factors in determining the success and failure of globally distributed software teams is trust. The aim of our work has therefore been to describe the key factors causing lack of trust, and the main effects of lacking trust in such teams. From studying 4 projects, all located in two different countries, with trust problems we found the key factors to be poor socialization and socio-cultural fit, lack of face-to-face meetings, m…

The Legitimacy Crisis: An Introduction

2020

This section examines how the crisis of democratic legitimacy shapes the prospects for further integration. All the authors find evidence for ‘muddling through’ by the EU in response to its legitimacy crisis. Raube and Costa Reis show how the Commission and European Parliament took incremental steps of starting infringement proceedings against Hungary and Poland in response to breaches in the rule of law by elected populist governments, yet partisanship undermined the EU’s response. Holst and Molander discuss the democratic pitfalls of technocratic decision-making in response to crisis and detail the kinds of reforms needed to enhance accountability and citizen nonexpert participation in po…

Everyday dynamics in generalized social and political trust

2017

Abstract We applied the traits as density distributions of states approach to generalized expectations of trustworthiness, namely, social trust and trust in politicians. Using an experience sampling study (N = 47), we assessed state social trust and trust in politicians four times a day for 2 weeks. Within-person variability was found to be low but meaningful as it was predicted by variations in affect, interactional trust, and prior experiences. There was high stability in interindividual differences in the mean levels of state trustworthiness expectations and in the levels of within-person variability. Our study provides a comprehensive understanding of stability and variability in genera…
