TiO2 Photocatalytic glucose conversion to H2 and high value chemicals

In this work it is reported the conversion of glucose in aqueous dispersion of various TiO2 based photocatalysts. Aerobic and anaerobic conditions were used to study the distribution of the products both in the liquid (arabinose, gluconic acid, fructose and formic acid) and gas (H2 and CO2) phases. Commercial and home prepared bare and Pt-supported TiO2 samples were used as the photocatalysts.

Designing of ports and coastal protection works as well as planning of coastal human activities require knowledge of tidal oscillations. The latter vary noticeably from site to site and present an “astronomic” component, which is roughly periodic, and a “meteorological” component which is usually considered as random. In this paper, the tidal oscillations observed in a Sicilian harbour in the period 1999-2009 are analysed statistically, in order to recognize a probability distribution which allows one to predict the highest tidal levels. Effect of ultrasound pre-treatment and drying method on specialized metabolites of honeyberry fruits (Lonicera caerulea var. kamtschatica).

Abstract Honeyberries are rich in various nutrients (eg. minerals, and vitamins) and bioactive compounds (eg. polyphenols). The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of ultrasound (USN) pre-treatment (100% power at 37 kHz) at 40 °C for 3 min and drying techniques (conduction or vacuum) on nutritional composition and bioactive compounds of honeyberry fruits. The evaluation of dried barriers revealed that both USN pre-treatment and drying techniques affected the composition of the final product. A method for the time-varying nonlinear prediction of complex nonstationary biomedical signals

A method to perform time-varying (TV) nonlinear prediction of biomedical signals in the presence of nonstationarity is presented in this paper. The method is based on identification of TV autoregressive models through expansion of the TV coefficients onto a set of basis functions and on k -nearest neighbor local linear approximation to perform nonlinear prediction. The approach provides reasonable nonlinear prediction even for TV deterministic chaotic signals, which has been a daunting task to date. International audience; The question discussed in the two following experiments concerns the effect of facial expressions on face recognition. Famous and unknown faces with neutral or smiling expression were presented for different inspection durations (15 ms vs 1000 ms). Subjects had to categorize these faces as famous or unknown (Experiment 1), or estimate their degree of familiarity on a rating scale (Experiment 2). The impact of supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCD) (10-60 MPa/45 °C/30 min) and subsequent 10 weeks storage at 4 °C on polyphenol oxidase (PPO), peroxidase (POD) activities, phenolic profile, vitamin C, sugars, physicochemical properties of cloudy apple juices was investigated. No significant changes in sugars and total polyphenols were observed, whereas significant degradation (≈28%) of vitamin C and individual polyphenols (≈18%) was noted after SCCD treatment. After 4 weeks storage only 34% of vitamin C was retained and no vitamin C was detected after this time.
