Orpheus and Thamyris are connected on the literary and iconographic levels, but reveal several divergencies as well. On an early Sicilian krater and an early Paestan hydria from Selinous, the depictions of Orpheus and Thamyris respectively allow us to reconsider the significance of the two singers as symbol of the Thracian music, in the Sicilian context and evaluate the use of these figurative subjects on Sicilian vases. The identity of the two musicians is not clearcut; the focal point is the music, in particular the Thracian, which acquires a divine and regenerating value in relation to the theme of the Underworld.

Summary: Background: To present a technique of sheath supported contralateral limb gate (CLG) cannulation of modular bifurcated stent-graft in endovascular abdominal aortic repair. Materials and methods: After totally percutaneous bilateral femoral access, the 9F introducer sheath is exchanged to a 30 cm 12 fr introducer sheath over a stiff wire contralateral to the intended main stent-graft insertion side and advanced into the aorta below the lowest renal artery. A 69-year-old man with a history of hypertension and severe pulmonary disease had asymptomatic bilateral common iliac and popliteal artery aneurysms. A bifurcated Talent and two Wallgraft stent-grafts were deployed via open femoral arteriotomies to exclude the aneurysms, respectively. The patient had an uncomplicated recovery, with no transfusion need; the hospital stay was 4 days. After a 5-year follow-up, no complication or endoleak has been detected, with patency of endografts and a mean decrease of 15% in aneurysm transverse diameters. Objective: To assess the etiology, management and outcome of iliac pseudoaneurysms following renal transplantation. Methods: Eleven patients who underwent repair between 1982 and 2007 were identified. Five (Group 1) presented pseudoaneurysm at the anastomosis of the donor renal and native iliac arteries, and six (Group 2) presented iliac pseudoaneurysm following transplant nephrectomy. Retroaortic left renal vein and inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm

The aim of this study was to report successful surgical management of an inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm associated with a retroaortic left renal vein. The patient, a 78-year-old man, presented with diffuse abdominal pain, fever, and constipation. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed soft tissue surrounding the aneurysm and a left renal vein behind the aorta. Intraoperative findings confirmed the CT images. The patient is alive and well 6 months postoperatively.

The aim of this study is to report a new minimally invasive technique of superficial temporal artery (STA) pseudoaneurysm treatment. Several surgical options have been employed to treat STA pseudoaneurysms. To address this rare condition, the employed techniques are ligation and excision of the aneurysm, endovascular coil embolization or percutaneous ultrasound-guided thrombin injection. Between techniques no significant differences are reported in terms of outcomes. The decision to adopt a technique depends on STA pseudoaneurysm morphology and surgeon preference.
