On the sensitivity of bridge seismic response with local soil amplification

The paper presents a numerical sensitivity study of the local site effects on structural response. Following a recently developed model of spatial coherency and a concept of a simple site coefficient the local site effects are modelled as filtrations of excitation processes with a frequency shift. An analysis of a bridge response with supports founded on different soils is carried out. The joint effects of dynamic response and pseudostatic motion are considered. Two types of response are analysed: longitudinal and transverse. The differences between dynamic displacements and force responses are pointed out.

A ride comfort tyre model for off-highway vehicles

Tyre modelling is a major challenge when using time domain multibody simulation models to evaluate ride comfort on off-highway commercial vehicles. Further, parameters for these big tyres are difficult to obtain and thus, commercial car tyre models are difficult to apply. In this research work, a simple vertical tyre model for off-highway ride comfort evaluation is suggested. A displaced volume approach has been developed and combined with the slip theory to yield a tyre model that can be characterised by only three parameters. Abstract We compare two formalisms applied to the vibrational modes of the molecule of AsH 3 of C 3 v molecular symmetry group. Indeed, the close stretching modes of this molecule may be considered as those of a three-dimensional oscillator whereas the bending modes may be considered either as a one-dimensional oscillator of symmetry A 1 and a two-dimensional oscillator of symmetry E or as an approximate three-dimensional oscillator. Vibration control of a base-isolated building using wavelets

Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.3182/20110828-6-IT-1002.03169 This paper proposes a numerical approach for finding an optimal control based on wavelet functions for vibration reduction of a base-isolated building subjected to actual earthquakes. The objective is two-fold: (1) to find a computational method using properties of Haar functions, and (2) to calculate controller gains approximately by solving only algebraic equations instead of solving the Riccati differential. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the technique.

In this article, we present a symmetry-adapted approach aimed to the accurate solution of the dynamic vibronic problem in large scale Jahn-Teller (JT) systems. The algorithm for the solution of the eigen-problem takes full advantage of the point symmetry arguments. The system under consideration is supposed to consist of a set of electronic levels mixed by the active JT and pseudo JT vibrational modes.
