Sharing spatial data with a 3D component as a collaborative and dissemination tool for archaeology: conceptual challenges and technical issues
2018
International audience; Due to INSPIRE directive, various spatial data infrastructure (SDI) were developed to support research activities. In practice, these toolsremain underexploited by researcher for many reasons. First, their use is time-consuming and researchers usually consider that they provide noimmediate benefits. Second, their use is often complex and needs a substantial investment for researchers who have a limited expertise in spatial data. Finally, often based on 2D GIS environment, they do not provide an adequate tool for collaborative research in archaeology. From this experience, an interdisciplinary team designed and developed an SDI based on GeOrchestra, synchronized with …
Learning Bag of Spatio-Temporal Features for Human Interaction Recognition
2019
Bag of Visual Words Model (BoVW) has achieved impressive performance on human activity recognition. However, it is extremely difficult to capture high-level semantic meanings behind video features with this method as the spatiotemporal distribution of visual words is ignored, preventing localization of the interactions within a video. In this paper, we propose a supervised learning framework that automatically recognizes high-level human interaction based on a bag of spatiotemporal visual features. At first, a representative baseline keyframe that captures the major body parts of the interacting persons is selected and the bounding boxes containing persons are extracted to parse the poses o…

Abnormal peripheral and central visual processing in migraine
2018
Sound induced flash illusion (SIFI) is an illusory cross modal (audio-visual) phenomenon critically dependent upon excitability of visual cortex. A recent study with SIFI confirmed hyperexcitability of visual cortex in migraine; patients with migraine show abnormality of chromatic perception. Here we explored the relationship between peripheral chromatic and central visual dysfunction in patients with migraine

Half-Masturbation or the Constant Stimulus of Video Art. Kidnapping the Viewer with Douglas Gordon’s 24 Hour Psycho
2016
Some people find it very annoying to visit a contemporary art show and to remain stuck in darkened rooms with videos running on monitors or projected against the walls. However, it is hard not to be drawn towards the passing frames and the audience inevitably tries to pick up the plot. Video art appears capable to bind the spectator compelling one in front of the screen, waiting to be amused or repelled. There appears to be some sort of irresistible attraction towards it, a sort of instinctive stimulus. How may an artist foster this natural lure creating attractive video pieces? Bruce Nauman for instance holds the viewer staring at videos as he bounces a ball against the wall or his balls w…
Extending existential feeling through sensory substitution
2023
AbstractIn current philosophy of mind, there is lively debate over whether emotions, moods, and other affects can extend to comprise elements beyond one’s organismic boundaries. At the same time, there has been growing interest in the nature and significance of so-called existential feelings, which, as the term suggests, are feelings of one’s overall being in the world. In this article, I bring these two strands of investigation together to ask: can the material underpinnings of existential feelings extend beyond one’s skull and skin? To begin, I introduce and adopt a componential-systemic view of extended affectivity. In doing so, I specify the vehicle externalist criteria for extension em…
Measuring Distraction at the Levels of Tactical and Strategic Control: The Limits of Capacity-Based Measures for Revealing Unsafe Visual Sampling Mod…
2011
The control theory of driving suggests that driver distraction can be analyzed as a breakdown of control at three levels. Common approach for analyzing distraction experimentally is to utilize capacity-based measures to assess distraction at the level of operational control. Three driving simulation experiments with 61 participants were organized to evaluate which kind of measures could be used to analyze drivers' tactical visual sampling models and the related effects of distraction while searching textual information on in-car display. The effects of two different text types were evaluated. The utilized capacity-based measures seemed to be insufficient for revealing participants' tactical…
