Pd–M/C (M = Pd, Cu, Pt) Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reaction in Alkaline Medium: Correlating the Electronic Structure with Activity

2017

The increasing global needs for clean and renewable energy have fostered the design of new and highly efficient materials for fuel cells applications. In this work, Pd-M (M = Pd, Cu, Pt) and Pt nanoparticles were prepared by a green synthesis method. The carbon-supported nanoparticles were evaluated as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline medium. A comprehensive electronic and structural characterization of these materials was achieved using X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Their electrochemical properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, while the…

Synthesis, Characterization, and Electrochemistry of Open-Chain Pentapyrroles and Sapphyrins with Highly Electron-Withdrawing meso -Tetraaryl Substit…

2017

International audience; A series of open-chain pentapyrroles and sapphyrins with highly electron-withdrawing substituents (i.e., CN, CF3 , or CO2 Me) on the meso-phenyl rings was synthesized and characterized as to the spectral properties, protonation reactions, and electrochemistry in non-aqueous media. The investigated compounds are represented as (Ar)4 PPyH3 and (Ar)4 SapH3 where PPy and Sap correspond to the tri-anion of the open-chain pentapyrrole and sapphyrin, respectively, and Ar=p-CNPh, p-CF3 Ph, or p-CO2 MePh. UV/Vis and 1 H NMR spectroscopy as well as mass spectrometry data are given for the confirmation of the structures for the newly synthesized compounds. An X-ray structure fo…

Determination of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn content of infant formulas by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV).

1994

The differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) method described is based on the one reported by Hasse et al., but adapted to normal laboratory conditions. The values obtained in the estimation of the analytical parameters (linearity, detection and quantification limits, precision and accuracy) show that in the conditions described the method is sensitive enough, reliable and useful for determining these elements in infant formulas. A comparison between DPASV and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) methods in the conditions described here shows that the former is less sensitive but that they are similar in precision. The cadmium, copper, lead and zinc contents of different type…

Experimental and robust modeling approach for lead(II) uptake by alginate gel beads: influence of the ionic strength and medium composition.

2014

Abstract Systematic kinetic and equilibrium studies on the lead ions removal ability by Ca-alginate gel beads have been performed by varying several internal parameters, namely, number of gel beads, nature and composition of the ionic medium and pH, which allowed us to model a wastewater in order to closely reproduce the composition of a real sample. Moreover, the effects brought about the different ionic species present in the reacting medium have been evaluated. Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (DP-ASV), has been systematically used to perform kinetic and equilibrium measurements over continuous time in a wide range of concentration. Kinetic and equilibrium data have been q…

Symptom variability and control in COPD: Advantages of dual bronchodilation therapy

2017

Abstract Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a heterogeneous disorder characterized by usually progressive development of airflow obstruction that is not fully reversible. While most patients will experience symptoms throughout the day or in the morning upon awakening, many patients do not experience their symptoms as constant but report variability in symptoms during the course of the day or over time. Symptom variability adversely affects patients' health status and increases the risk of COPD exacerbations. Methods We examined data from the literature on symptom variability and control in patients with COPD, with focus on the use of inhaled bronchodilator therapy wi…

Effects of ultrasound and temperature on copper electro reduction in Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES).

2014

Abstract This paper concerns a preliminary study for a new copper recovery process from ionic solvent. The aim of this work is to study the reduction of copper in Deep Eutectic Solvent (choline chloride–ethylene glycol) and to compare the influence of temperature and the ultrasound effects on kinetic parameters. Solutions were prepared by dissolution of chloride copper salt CuCl 2 (to obtain Copper in oxidation degree II) or CuCl (to obtain Copper in oxidation degree I) and by leaching metallic copper directly in DES. The spectrophotometry UV–visible analysis of the leached solution showed that the copper soluble form obtained is at oxidation degree I (Copper I). Both cyclic voltammetry and…

Prediction of Maxwell – Stefan diffusion coefficients in polymer – multicomponent fluid systems

2014

Abstract Calculations of mass fluxes in multicomponent fluids based on the system of generalized Maxwell–Stefan equations (GMSE) is preferably used because Maxwell–Stefan (M–S) diffusion coefficients are symmetrical and have a clear physical meaning, as they reflect the binary friction forces between compounds in the system. For the calculation of the mass transport of a multicomponent fluid in the polymer basing on GMSE, it is necessary to have M–S diffusion coefficients. This paper proposes a method that allows their calculation using widely available self-diffusion coefficients and binary diffusion coefficients for infinitely diluted mixtures. The proposed method was compared with the me…

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria and densities for the system methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether+2-propanol

2002

Vapor-liquid equilibrium data at 50, 75 and 94 kPa have been determined for the binary system methyl 1,1-dimethylethyl ether + 2-propanol, in the temperature range 308-344 K. The measurements were made in an equilibrium still with circulation of both the vapor and liquid phases. Excess volumes have been also determined from density measurements using a vibrating tube densimeter at 298.15 K. The system exhibits positive deviation from ideal behavior and does not present azeotropy within the range of pressures studied. The excess volume of the system is negative over the whole mole fraction range. The activity coefficients and boiling points of the solutions were well correlated with the mole…

Die bestimmung von sedimentationskoeffizient, diffusions-koeffizient und molekulargewicht von α-amylasen nach der methode des aktivitätstransportes

1965

Abstract Sedimentation and diffusion coefficients determined by optical methods on pure (crystallized) enzymes are compared with those obtained by activity measurements on the unpurified enzymes. On performing the experiments under suitable conditions, results of the two methods are in good agreement. The calculation of the molecular weights of the unpurified enzymes is somewhat uncertain because the partial specific volume in most cases is not accurately known.

Dynamic Volatility Weighting in the Presence of Transaction Costs

2015

Numerous empirical studies demonstrate the superiority of dynamic strategies with volatility weighting over time mechanism. These strategies control the portfolio risk over time by adjusting the risk exposure according to updated volatility forecasts. Yet, in order to reap all benefits promised by volatility weighting over time, the composition of the active portfolio must be revised rather frequently. Transaction costs represent a serious obstacle to benefiting from this dynamic risk control technique. In this paper we propose a modified volatility weighting strategy that allows one to reduce dramatically the amount of trading costs. The empirical evidence shows that the advantages of the …
