Serologic Response to Cell Wall Mannoproteins and Proteins of Candida albicans

1998

SUMMARY The cell wall of Candida albicans not only is the structure in which many biological functions essential for the fungal cells reside but also is a significant source of candidal antigens. The major cell wall components that elicit a response from the host immune system are proteins and glycoproteins, the latter being predominantly mannoproteins. Both the carbohydrate and protein moieties are able to trigger immune responses. Although cell-mediated immunity is often considered to be the most important line of defense against candidiasis, cell wall protein and glycoprotein components also elicit a potent humoral response from the host that may include some protective antibodies. Prot…

Early detection of embryonic malformations by transvaginal and color Doppler sonography.

1994

A total of 834 women with uneventful pregnancies were followed prospectively until the 15th week of gestation by TVS to screen for early embryonic malformations. Twenty-eight embryonic anomalies were detected in this series (3.3%). The median gestational age at diagnosis was 11 (range, 8 to 15) weeks. Two neural tube defects were missed by early TVS screening. Two suspected abdominal wall defects were not confirmed by repeat mid-second trimester abdominal sonography representing 6.7% of all fetal malformations evident by 24 weeks of gestation. The sensitivity and specificity of TVS screening for fetal malformations in this series were 93.3 and 99.7%, respectively. In addition, the role of T…

New Computational Fluid Dynamic Procedure to Estimate Friction and Local Losses in Coextruded Drip Laterals

2007

The design of trickle irrigation systems is crucial to optimize profitability and to warrant high values for the emission uniformity (EU) coefficient. EU depends on variation of the pressure head due to head losses along the lines and elevation changes, as well as the water temperature, and other parameters related to the emitters (manufacturer's coefficient of variation, number of emitters per plants, emitter spacing). Trickle irrigation plants are usually designed using small diameter plastic pipes (polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride). The design problem, therefore, needs to consider head losses along the lines as well as emitter discharge variations due to the manufacturer's variability.…

Mathematical Models and their Solutions for Domains of Compex Form

2014

Promocijas darbā tiek apskatīti dažādi oriģināli modeļi un to risinājumi sarežģītas formas apgabaliem.

Fleurey-sur-Ouche (Côte-d’Or). Maison de santé [notice archéologique]

2019

Characterization of cell wall proteins from yeast and mycelial cells of Candida albicans by labelling with biotin: Comparison with other techniques

1992

Candida albicans ATCC 26555 blastoconidia and blastoconidia bearing germ tubes were metabolically labelled by incubating the cells with 14C-labelled protein hydrolysate and were subsequently tagged with biotin. Double-labelled (radioactive and biotinylated) cell wall proteins and glycoproteins were extracted from intact cells of both growth forms by treatment with 2-mercaptoethanol (beta ME) and with beta-glucanases (Zymolyase) after treatment with beta ME. The beta ME- and Zymolyase-extracts were separated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and western blotted (immunoblotted) to nitrocellulose paper. Polyacrylamide gels were stained with Coomassie blue and process…

Electric field driven domain wall transfer in hybrid structures

2012

Domain wall (DW) motion devices attracts much interest with their prospective logic and memory applications[1][2]. Present on-chip DW manipulations by a magnetic field of electric currents or electron spin torque raise the problem of high Ohmic energy losses. We show that such a difficulty can be avoided by applying an exchange field H eff to the magnetic layer from the proximate graphene (Gr), instead of using an actual magnetic field. H eff is shown to be dependent on carrier density gradient in Gr, which is easily manipulated with a gate voltage. A novel memory device implementing this concept is designed and modeled, demonstrating switching power well below femto-Joule while maintaining…

2014

This paper presents the preliminary findings of in situ measurements of thermal transmittance taken in a monumental complex in Palermo. The objective of energy efficiency, one of the main aspects of sustainable construction, is now relevant also for historic architecture. The research aims at analysing the energy performance of the stone walls of the complex, characterized by various thickness, age and construction features. Measurements are taken in accordance with the international standard ISO 9869:1994. The U-values so obtained are compared with tabular data from the Italian standard UNI/TS 11300-1:2008 and with values calculated following the UNI EN ISO 6946:2008. Nine preliminary meas…
