Thermal expansion of Glass fibre reinforced (GRF) thermoplastics: influence of the nature of the polymer matrix and of the fibre content

An Intelligent Car Driver for safe Navigation with Fuzzy Obstacle Avoidance.
2009
In order to respond effectively to the environment uncertainties, autonomous vehicles are generally equipped with sensors. The proposed car guidance system is equipped with an intelligent controller, based on fuzzy logic, which calculates the speed and wheels orientation in order to follow a path while it is avoiding unknown obstacles. Better fluidity of driving are obtained using future-path, car dimension and car position prevision. Vehicle symmetries also speed-up and simplify the guidance system reducing the inputs and the rules numbers.
A Novel Time Series Kernel for Sequences Generated by LTI Systems
2017
The recent introduction of Hankelets to describe time series relies on the assumption that the time series has been generated by a vector autoregressive model (VAR) of order p. The success of Hankelet-based time series representations prevalently in nearest neighbor classifiers poses questions about if and how this representation can be used in kernel machines without the usual adoption of mid-level representations (such as codebook-based representations). It is also of interest to investigate how this representation relates to probabilistic approaches for time series modeling, and which characteristics of the VAR model a Hankelet can capture. This paper aims at filling these gaps by: deriv…
Exploiting Correlation between Body Gestures and Spoken Sentences for Real-time Emotion Recognition
2017
Humans communicate their affective states through different media, both verbal and non-verbal, often used at the same time. The knowledge of the emotional state plays a key role to provide personalized and context-related information and services. This is the main reason why several algorithms have been proposed in the last few years for the automatic emotion recognition. In this work we exploit the correlation between one's affective state and the simultaneous body expressions in terms of speech and gestures. Here we propose a system for real-time emotion recognition from gestures. In a first step, the system builds a trusted dataset of association pairs (motion data -> emotion pattern), a…

The Protection of the Right of Freedom on the European Union Level: The European Arrest Warrant and Non-custodial Pre Trial Measures. The Guideline o…
2013
2019
The aim of this article is to contextualize the right to peace in the practice of human rights and to examine its evolution in the last sixty years. Three phases can be identified. At the very beginning, peace was the propelling force of establishing the practice of protecting human rights, but very soon other compelling needs replaced it, mainly the right of Peoples to self-determination during the age of decolonization. The last development of the relationships between rights and peace regards the exaltation of human rights as just causes for wars. This paradoxical development can be considered a defective shift for human rights, not only from the point of view of the very meaning of the …
2019
The article examines some central questions regarding the evolution of law in the light of the presence of the practice of protecting human rights, in the domestic and in the international domains. It identifies a shift in the same practice of human rights, visible in the coming back of war as a legitimate mean, and asserts that that shift is a defective reading of the same practice of human rights, connected to the resistance of law to the challenge represented by rights.
2016
In his account of the Peloponnesian war, Thucydides explicitly insists on some dilemmas linked to the wider matter of deliberative process: in particular, the relationship between nature, profit and justice, truth and lie, speech and action. The story of the uprising of Mytilene is particularly useful, intertwining the antilogy between the two speakers (Cleon and Diodotus) with the so-called metanoia: the Athenian deliberative rethinking puts on focus the complex problems of the building of consensus in the democratic decision-making processes. Here we examine only one point of the two rich and articulate speeches: the opportunity of discussing again what has been already decided in a corre…
«Poeni foedifragi, crudelis Hannibal, reliqui iustiores» (off. i 38) Cicerone e gli exempla a proposito delle guerre puniche
2021
In a section of the De officiis, Book i, Cicero deals with the justice of warfare. He asserts that the enemies defeated who were not cruel and savage should be spared, so the maiores utterly destroyed Carthage and Numantia (i 35). In i 38 Cicero refers to the wars undertaken by Romans, distinguishing the ones waged de imperio (as the Punic wars) from the others fighted uter esset (as the wars against Celtiberi and Cimbri): the first must be fought less cruelly, but Cicero justifies the destruction of Carthage with the sentence Poeni foedifragi, crudelis Hannibal, reliqui iustiores, probably containing a quotation from Ennius’s Annales. These passages, examined in comparison with historical …
