An Evaluation Model for Social Work with Substance Abusers

In this article, the research topic is to develop an evaluation model for social work with substance abusers. It is studied by presenting an example of how the evaluation process could be carried out in practice. The study has been implemented with the Department of Social Services and Health Care’s Centre for Recovering Substance Abusers in Finland (RSA Centre). The term “evaluation model” refers to a way of collecting client follow-up information and the way the information is used to develop social work practices. Local Welfare Systems in Rural Finland as a Representation of Sustainable Development

This chapter will discuss whether the place-based approach to welfare that is characteristic of many rural locations in Finland provides a path towards a new kind of socially, economically and ecologically sustainable welfare culture. In doing so we will review how the local welfare systems in two Finnish rural localities – the village of Ullava in western Finland and the municipality of Ilomantsi in eastern Finland – are constructed and functioning and how they meet the requirements of sustainable development. peerReviewed

Gender and Work-life balance: a contest analysis on nursey schools in Palermo

This paper reflects on the gender inequalities and their influence in the access to labor market and, on the other one, to reproductive process. Maternity and work often arise as choices excluding one another due for the inadequacy of care services. The essay reviews some laws of the last years for encourage the work-life balance and analyzes the presence of the services for children in Palermo. Trust in Finnish Education: A Historical Perspective

This article analyzes the origins of generalized trust in Finnish society and how this relates to trust in education. The study was based on a historical analysis of the role of education in building a Finnish society and nation state. The author discusses the development of a Nordic welfare state and analyzes the relationships between generalized trust and education from the perspectives of democracy, corruption, egalitarian attitudes, wealth, and culture.
