New technologies have radically transformed not only geography as a discipline but also the geographies of the world. Indeed the digital has assumed an increasingly pervasive mediating role in the production of space as of geographic knowledge and imaginaries. The possibilities offered by the virtual in particular now offer a decisive contribution in communicating the meanings attributed to places and respond increasingly effectively to the emerging needs of the tourism sector. Digitally mediated visitor experiences aim to engage the senses and are effective when they promote rigorously realistic immersions. Within the framework of these reflections the paper highlights the renewed relevance of authenticity both of the tourism experience and of cultural heritage in relation to its potential for attraction and proposes a contextualization of the theme in light of the unprecedented opportunities granted by technologies for the creation of virtual and augmented spaces. The proposed discussion is therefore also a journey aimed at exploring authenticity as a tool through which new technologies can effectively mediate a sense of place and foster brand communication of a destination. The case study is the UNESCO site of Tarragona whose most relevant image for urban policies is presented. This shared figuration spatially defined and rooted in a precise historical moment is reconstructed on the one hand through the analysis of functional documentation for the candidacy and on the other by means of a review of mobile applications developed for the promotion of the city's cultural heritage. The proposed journey and exploration of the place return in light of the research data and in conclusion the central role played by digital technologies in mediating the UNESCO imaginary. In the current (post-) pandemic context and through the lens of a southern European perspective the purpose of this article is to critically reflect about the role of culture as possible vehicle of urban and community regeneration. In particular we will focus on the activities of the no profit organization «Laboratorio Zen Insieme» in ZEN2 one of the last large popular and peripheral neighborhoods built in Palermo at the end of 80s in order to explore and understand how cultural practices work as agent of urban and social transformation capable of addressing emerging issues especially in the pandemic scenario we are experiencing. Thecasestudy has been conducted through analysis of documents participative observations (Honer and Hitzler 2015) and qualitative in-depth interviews with key actors involved in the conception organization and management of the activities carried out by Laboratorio Zen Insieme with representatives of local institutions and non-formal conversations with participants of the workshops heldin the neighborhood. The experience we narrate finds that cultural practices have re-conceptualized their design and functions as strategies of urban and community regeneration and at the same time have contributed to answer to emergent issues in developing proximity and local based strategies facing up to problems inherent civil rights educationalpoverty socio-spatial justice and have changed the image and identity of urban places they inhabit.In this sense the research provides a framework for development of strategies and legitimization for cultural practices and a point of discussionabouttheirrolein urban development.Although all cities in the world have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic its impacts on the territories yet to be understood are unevenly distributed revealing extremely varied imbalances depending on the places. For isocratic elution the plots are parabolic although often the parabolas can be approximated to straight-lines. The plots can be obtained with the half-widths/retention time data for a set of solutes experiencing the same kinetics eluted with a mobile phase at fixed or varying composition. When the analysed solutes experience different resistance to mass transfer the plots will be solute dependent and should be obtained with the data for each solute eluted with mobile phases at varying composition. The half-width plots approach is a simple tool that facilitates the prediction of peak shape (width and asymmetry) with optimisation purposes reveal the interaction kinetics of solutes in different columns and characterise chromatographic columns. This work shows half-width plots for different situations in isocratic elution including the use of different flows the effect of temperature the modification of the stationary phase surface by an additive the existence of specific interactions within the column and the comparison of columns. The adaptation to gradient elution is also described. There are three vineyards that represent for morphological characteristics and management the entire sub-basin which is one of the areas most under vines in Sicily. The aim is to assess the sustainability of irrigation management in terms of saving energy through the application of the model FAO 56 fetlock water balance. This study lays the foundation for the preparation of action plans developed to reverse negative trends in environmental resource management which are susceptible to degradation processes.

The extension of remote control on the practices of everyday life in the domestic space emphasized by the daily Covid 19 pandemic constitutes a useful advertising reference and an accelerator for the planetary oligopolists of urban data such as Alphabet. The fusion of the new emblems of techno-emancipation and sustainability in experimental hypotheses that can be built both in whole or in parts draws a new horizon in which the domestic space generates a technological profit and the inhabitants are transformed into producers. From a historical perspective our reality eclipses the idea of technology as an anonymous contribution to collective progress demonstrated by Giedion in Mechanization takes command and subverts the allegorical value assigned by the Architecture of the Seventies to the relational utopias of the Web Stem and Cluster.

Settore ICAR/14 - Composizione Architettonica E UrbanaThe essay questions the future's possibilities to operate on the buildings of the second half of the twentieth century according to the Italian Code of Cultural Heritage (2004-2011). When arguing how to encourage the re-use of these artifacts which are often marked by short-life technology cycles obsolescence and abandonment the ambiguities and inconsistencies of current legislative procedures deeply stress the cultural role of research experiences that use project-oriented methodologies. The comparison between some Italian and other European cases highlights the role of a design approach in the construction of a transformative protection perspective for the built matter of the second half of the twentieth century. In a framework aiming to encourage a reconciliation between the recent built environment and the new paradigms of sustainability and circular economy architecture must recognize re-cycle practices as a main theoretical and procedural node. To modernize the late Modern built environment with contemporary construction components is not simply a matter of technical knowledge and expertise: but a theme with theoretical density aesthetic and ethical values. The architectural project in this field today must ask for greater congruence between the bureaucratic and administrative levels and the real consistency of this corpus. It is a matter of identifying strategies to equip it with capabilities meanings and contents remembering that demolition wastes have unsustainable environmental costs and uncertain results concerning the necessary new attribution of political and semantic meaning that these places await.

In the Palermo context a commitment made by a plurality of cultural subjects already active in the area gathered in a public assembly (Palermo si cura) during the period of the first lockdown gave rise to mutual aid actions to respond to the economic emergency and social and offer a proposal to cure the fragility of the city based not on charity but on the claim of a political dimension of collective action. Starting from the analysis of initiatives such as "Un sorriso per Ballarò" and "Abbiamo un (bi)sogno" the contribution analyzes the role the incidence and the fragility of these experiences in providing answers - often filling gaps - to a general interest and how these processes of value creation can hopefully contribute to the construction of local government policies capable of addressing emerging issues.

In replacing the viscous damper which dissipates the kinetic energy of the vehicle due to rough roads or obstacles more marked an electromagnetic damper is used that performs the functions of the viscous damper allowing a recovery of electricity. The damper is of the electromagnetic type with permanent magnets and its operation is based on the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. The mathematical model describes the operation of the damper restoring the values of the electrical and mechanical magnitudes as a function of the relative speed between the rod and the stator. Energy recovery has been estimated considering an electric minicar that transits on a bumpy road. The recovered power has a total value of about 250W.

Rateless Codes Performance Analysis in Correlated Channel Model for GEO Free Space Optics Downlinks

Settore ING-INF/03 - TelecomunicazioniFree Space Optics (FSO) technologies for satellite communications offer several advantages: wide bandwidth high rate capability immunity to electromagnetic interference and small equipment size. Thus they are suitable for inter-satellite links deep space communications and also for high data rate ground-to-satellite/satellite-to-ground communications. Nevertheless FSO links suffer impairments that cause power signal degradation at the receiver. Scattering and absorption cause power signal attenuations predictable by suitable deterministic models. Optical turbulence causes random irradiance fluctuations which can generate signal fading events and can thereby only be predicted by statistical models. Attenuation and fading events can corrupt FSO links and so it would be recommended to add mitigation error codes on the communication link. FSO channel can be described as an erasure channel: fading events can cause erasure errors. We have identified in rateless codes (RCs) a suitable solution to be employed in FSO links. RCs do not need feedback and they add a redundant coding on the source data that allows the receiver to recover the whole payload despite erasure errors. We implemented two different of rateless codes: Luby Transform (LT) and Raptor. We analyzed their performances on a simulated turbulent GEO FSO downlink (1 Gbps - OOK modulation) at a 106 μm wavelength and for different values of zenith angles. Assuming a plane-wave propagation and employing Hufnagel-Valley we modeled the downlink using: 1) a temporal correlated channel model based on Gamma-Gamma probability distribution and 2) an irradiance covariance function that we converted on a time function using Taylor frozen eddies hypothesis. Our new channel model is able to simulate irradiance fluctuations at different turbulence conditions as it will be shown in the full paper. We will also report performance results of LT and Raptor codes at overhead range varying between 0 and 50% and for different values of source packets.Settore ING-INF/01 - Elettronica
