Implementation Challenges for Supporting Coworking Virtual Enterprises
2013
The creation of co working alliances is usually restricted to the coworkers in the same workspace. However, they might not necessarily be best partners to take advantage of a collaboration opportunity. To break the spatial constrains and find the best partners irrespective of their co working spaces location, our proposal is to represent and manage the co working alliances as virtual enterprises (VEs) and to develop a multi-agent system (MAS) that serves as Virtual Breeding Environment (VBE). In this paper we provide the basis for the future development of this system. Thus, we introduce the co working VEs distinguishing features and the initial proposals on how to implement the MAS to addr…
Studi greci e latini nell?antica Università di Altamura (1748-1821)
2019
The article tries to highlight, despite the scarse of available documentation, the Greek and Latin studies (language and texts) in the ancient Apulian University in Altamura (1748-1821). Furthermore, on the basis of unpublished archival materials (school registers and student workbooks) it is possible to shed light on the ancient authors explained at school, the teaching methods, and the study practices.
Time trials versus time-to-exhaustion tests: Effects on critical power, W0, and oxygen-uptake kinetics
2018
Purpose: To investigate single-day time-to-exhaustion (TTE) and time-trial (TT) -based laboratory tests values of critical power (CP), W prime (W0), and respective oxygen-uptake-kinetic responses. Methods: Twelve cyclists performed a maximal ramp test followed by 3 TTE and 3 TT efforts interspersed by 60 min recovery between efforts. Oxygen uptake (VO 2) was measured during all trials. The mean response time was calculated as a description of the overall VO 2-kinetic response from the onset to 2 min of exercise. Results: TTE-determined CP was 279 ± 52 W, and TT-determined CP was 276 ± 50 W (P = .237). Values of W0 were 14.3 ± 3.4 kJ (TTE W0) and 16.5 ± 4.2 kJ (TT W0) (P = .028). While a hig…
The burden of peri-operative work at night as perceived by anaesthesiologists: An international survey
2023
Background: No international data are available on the night working conditions and workload of anaesthesiologists and their opinions about associated risks. Objective: The aim of this international survey was to describe the peri-operative night working conditions of anaesthesiologists and their perception of the impact these conditions have on patient outcomes and their own quality of life. Design: Cross-sectional survey. Setting: Not applicable. Participants: Anaesthesiologists providing peri-operative care during night shifts responded to an online survey promoted by the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC). Interventions: None. Main outcome measure: Twenty-eig…
Reporting, Reflecting and Recognising Emotions in Therapeutic Work with Domestic Violence Perpetrators : Experiences of the Jyväskylä Group Model
2020
Emotions are central in therapeutic work, but interventions for violence vary in how they address emotions. While emotional work with perpetrators is often associated with ‘anger management’ and behavioural elements, a more comprehensive view of emotions might be beneficial in efforts to stop and prevent violent behaviour. Perpetrators’ self-regulation can be promoted by recognising and addressing primary feelings (vulnerability, fear, jealousy, etc.) that may manifest as anger and aggressive behaviour. However, this kind of therapeutic work with perpetrators of violence is also challenging for professionals. For example, when working towards ending violence, it is crucial to differentiate …
A gradient elasticity theory for second-grade materials and higher order inertia
2012
Abstract Second-grade elastic materials featured by a free energy depending on the strain and the strain gradient, and a kinetic energy depending on the velocity and the velocity gradient, are addressed. An inertial energy balance principle and a virtual work principle for inertial actions are envisioned to enrich the set of traditional theoretical tools of thermodynamics and continuum mechanics. The state variables include the body momentum and the surface momentum, related to the velocity in a nonstandard way, as well as the concomitant mass-accelerations and inertial forces, which do intervene into the motion equations and into the force boundary conditions. The boundary traction is the …
Oxidative stress and DNA damage in agricultural workers after exposure to pesticides
2021
Abstract Background Recent epidemiological studies on workers describe that exposure to pesticides can induce oxidative stress by increased production of free radicals that can accumulate in the cell and damage biological macromolecules, for example, RNA, DNA, DNA repair proteins and other proteins and/or modify antioxidant defense mechanisms, as well as detoxification and scavenger enzymes. This study aimed to assess oxidative stress and DNA damage among workers exposed to pesticides. Methods For this purpose, 52 pesticide exposed workers and 52 organic farmers were enrolled. They were assessed: the pesticide exposure, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), total glutathione (TG)…
Pasqualino Contemporaneo
2018
A Museum that tells stories. A Museum that houses ideas – not only things. A Museum that, going beyond the simple act of collecting, acquires a narrative dimension and turns into a meta-narrative, into an “Open Work”. This performance museum, which is the Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum, focuses on narration and trans- forms itself into a mnestic image, becomes a tool for intercultural mediation through the use of different artistic languages. This long tradition of study and research is the frame of the Pasqualino Museum’s contemporary art projects realized in the past ten years.
Proyectos educativos multidisciplinares y ayuda a la comunidad
2019
This paper relates an experience carried out at a higher education setting, specifically involving 3rd-year students in the Early Childhood Education degree programme. In relation to this, the paper presents an educational model that takes into account the need to develop ethical and social competences and gives importance to interdisciplinary education in real contexts. To this aim, all the academic modules that form part of this degree programme devote 25% of their teaching time and evaluation to the development of an interdisciplinary project. This paper will describe one of these projects, entitled "Solve a real problem", the design of which is informed by service-learning and problem-b…
