Who should get COVID-19 vaccine first? A survey to evaluate hospital workers’ opinion

2021

Prospective planning of COVID-19 vaccines allocation will be essential to maximize public health and societal benefits while preserving equity. Decisions about how to allocate limited supplies of vaccines need to be clear about the criteria used in setting priorities, with a specific commitment to transparency and communication. The aim of our study was to think through these competing demands, focusing on the opinion of healthcare workers (HCWs). The primary endpoint of the study was to assess the opinion of all the HCWs in a University based Italian Hospital about the fairest priority order to COVID 19 vaccines and to understand on which criteria the prioritization preferences of HCWs are…

Hopelessness and burnout in Italian healthcare workers during COVID-19 pandemic: the mediating role of trait emotional intelligence

2023

Objective: The study aims to assess the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare workers’ work-related stress during the first wave of the pandemic in Italy. The main objective is to investigate the existence of a positive correlation between hopelessness and burnout, assuming that burnout may be a riskfactor for the development of hopelessness, and to analyze the role thattrait Emotional Intelligence (TEI) and changes in workload could have in this relationship. Furthermore, evaluate any significant differences in burnoutand hopelessness levels in the function of some demographic variables, such as gender, professional profiles, and different working zones of Italy, tobetter understand how the di…

Employees' perceptions of relational communication in full-time remote work in the public sector.

2021

The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to numerous changes in society. This paper aims to understand how the abrupt transfer to remote work is reflected in employees' perceptions of relational communication at their work. Our research question is as follows: What kinds of perceptions and profiles regarding relational communication can be found among full-time remote workers? A sample of 1, 091 Finnish public sector employees with virtually no previous experience in remote work completed an open-ended survey during the first wave of the pandemic. The findings present 17 aspects of relational communication that the respondents mentioned as having changed because of moving to remote work. These …

2013

Contains fulltext : 125368.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: Care for patients with colon and rectal cancer has improved in the last twenty years however still considerable variation exists in cancer management and outcome between European countries. Therefore, EURECCA, which is the acronym of European Registration of cancer care, is aiming at defining core treatment strategies and developing a European audit structure in order to improve the quality of care for all patients with colon and rectal cancer. In December 2012 the first multidisciplinary consensus conference about colon and rectum was held looking for multidisciplinary consensus. The expert panel consisted of…

Frequency of psycho-oncologic and social service counseling in cancer centers relative to center site and hospital characteristics: Findings from 879…

2016

BACKGROUND There is extensive evidence that patients with cancer and cancer survivors have a strong need for expert support in relation to the psychological and social consequences of the disease. The requirements set out in the German Cancer Society's cancer center certification system include the routine provision of psycho-oncologic care (POC) and social service counseling for every patient. The current study investigated which organizational and structural characteristics in hospitals account for variations in psychosocial care provision in these centers. METHODS Data routinely collected during the certification process regarding the percentages of psychosocial care provision and charac…

Quantification of exposure to dioxins and furans in a cohort of workers of a herbicide producing plant in hamburg, FRG

1992

Abstract To assess the exposure to PCDD/Fs of a cohort of 1583 workers of a herbicide producing plant in Hamburg, FRG, investigated for cancer mortality, measurements of PCDD/Fs in fat tissue (n=48) or blood (n=64) were analyzed according to work histories in a subgroup of n=112 male workers. In a multiple regression analysis the time of work in the production of 2,4,5-T and 2,4,5-TCP, for the latter especially before 1957, correlated well with the levels of 2378-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). For most of the higher chlorinated isomers time of work in the thermic decomposition showed the strongest effect. The results confirm that the developed indicators are good proxis for exposure to…

Voicing the Subaltern in African-American and Dalit Women's Autobiographies

2021

This paper aims to analyse two major autobiographies of Dalit women's literature and African American women's writing - Karukku (1992) by Bama Faustina and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (1861) by Harriet A. Jacobs - to bring forth the similarities between these two groups of subaltern women. Through the means of autobiography, both writers transmit their own experiences and denounce the gender, race and caste oppression endured. The subaltern theory coined by Antonio Gramsci and developed by Gayatri Spivak will be used to analyse these texts and the way they establish a link between two different worlds as well as how they share the common objective of making their narrators' exclus…

Variational approach to the mechanics of metal V-belt systems

2005

The mechanical behaviour of metal V-belt drives is strongly dependent on the elastic properties of both the belt and the pulley, which influence the belt penetration into the groove and the sliding on the pulley wall. The distribution of tension and penetration is quite different from the rubber belts, which may be dealt with in the assumption of perfectly rigid pulleys. The restoring effect of the centrifugal forces of the plate elements has also to be taken into account. The present analysis considers the combination of all those effects, choosing a three parameter deformation function to describe the plate bending and applying the principle of virtual work for the calculation of the unkn…
