Experiences from global e-collaboration: Contextual influences on technology adoption and use

The article presents a cross-case comparison of experiences from organizational adoption and use of e-collaboration technologies in two large global companies. Challenges in the global implementation process were found to increase with the organizational and geographical scope of the implementation, level of autonomy in the adoption process, cultural diversity, technological heterogeneity, and level of work process support embedded in the system. Alignment with existing collaborative work practices resulted in faster adoption of the technological solution. After studying Emerico Amari’s manuscripts, kept in the Biblioteca Comunale di Palermo, in this paper the author observes the contribution of Sicilian liberalism to the economic debate carried out in the years prior to the Revolution of ‘48. The unpublished papers enhance our knowledge and describe more clearly the reformist program that liberal Palermitans, among which Francesco Ferrara is numbered, stated and sustained for about ten years in the main administrative institutions of the island. Particular attention is paid to the most debated administrative and economic issues of that period: public works and conditions of Sicilian industry.

Abstract As the use of digitalization and automated decision-making becomes more common in the public sector, civil servants and clients find themselves in an environment where automation and robot technology can be expected to make dramatic changes. Social service delivery in Trelleborg, Sweden, is the setting for a case study of the goals, policies, procedures, and responses to a change in how social assistance is delivered using automated decision-making. Work-based learning has been developing rapidly in Latvia for the last three years. Since 2017, the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia has been implementing a project of the European Social Fund, which provides for a tripartite learning implementation agreement between the educational institution, the student, and the employer. The project targets vocational learners, but equivalent opportunities are also spoken of in higher vocational education.
