Concerning the evidence for sheep in Gaul.- In northern Gaul, bones of sheep and goat are found in most Iron Age sites, farms, villages, graves and shrines. It is difficult to establish a good distinction between the bones of these two species, but sheep are more numerous than goat. This short paper deals with the use of these animals in domestic and ritual practices over a long period, from the Late Bronze Age to the beginning of Roman period. The fact that these animals are represented by bones encourages the study of meat consumption. As part of a multi-year programme, survey campaigns have been carried out on both slopes of the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass (2188 m, western Alps), at an altitude of between 750 and 3000 m. The method employed abandons ground-based surveying in favour of multiple manual surveys carried out on selected topographic contexts down to the base of the Holocene fill. The results obtained document the longterm development of the pedo-sedimentary dynamic and the occupation of the different altitude stages. International audience; Les eaux de la Douix (Châtillon-sur-Seine) ont livré un ensemble de fibules en fer et en alliage cuivreux qui n’a que peu d’équivalent dans l’ensemble des dépôts en milieu aquatique connus en France au Premier âge du Fer. Découvert à la fin des années 1990 dans une résurgence, ce dépôt regroupe surtout des fibules, qui se trouvent ici exceptionnellement réunies alors qu’elles sont plutôt découvertes de façon isolée dans les habitats et les sépultures. Une fortification inédite de la résidence princière de Vix

Within the framework of a palaeoenvironmental study of the princely site of Vix, a trench was excavated at the foot of the eastern slope of the mont Lassois. This trench allowed to unearth a new fortification of the Hallstattian defensive system. The geophysical surveys showed that a segment of the eastern slope is lined with this new fortification. The second significant discovery was the presence of a new settlement in this area of the hill. Some data point out a possi-ble craft production area dated in the Hallstatt D2/D3. Ancient architecture in Provence between the Iron Age and the Imperial era: the pillars of the Château-Bas site in Vernègues

The site of Château-Bas (Vernègues, Bouches-du-Rhône), famous above all for its Augustan Roman temple, has yielded a set of pillars decorated either with writhing snakes or with straight rods. As yet there are no known parallels to such pillars. The discovery of a fragment of a pillar reused in a 1st c. AD structure demonstrates that these carvings are ancient. The architectural study of the fragments and comparison with other sculptural elements from southern Gaul suggest they date approximately to the turn of the millenium.
