Acoustic Wave Properties in Footpoints of Coronal Loops in 3D MHD Simulations
2021
Acoustic waves excited in the photosphere and below might play an integral part in the heating of the solar chromosphere and corona. However, it is yet not fully clear how much of the initially acoustic wave flux reaches the corona and in what form. We investigate the wave propagation, damping, transmission, and conversion in the lower layers of the solar atmosphere using 3D numerical MHD simulations. A model of a gravitationally stratified expanding straight coronal loop, stretching from photosphere to photosphere, is perturbed at one footpoint by an acoustic driver with a period of 370 seconds. For this period acoustic cutoff regions are present below the transition region (TR). About 2% …
CSI2264: Simultaneous optical and X-ray variability in the pre-main sequence stars of NGC2264. II: Photometric variability, magnetic activity, and ro…
2019
Pre-main sequence stars are variable sources. In diskless stars this variability is mainly due to the rotational modulation of dark photospheric spots and active regions, as in main sequence stars even if associated with a stronger magnetic activity. Aims. We aim at analyzing the simultaneous optical and X-ray variability in these stars to unveil how the activity in the photosphere is connected with that in the corona, to identify the dominant surface magnetic activity, and to correlate our results with stellar properties, such as rotation and mass. Methods. We analyzed the simultaneous optical and X-ray variability in stars without inner disks (e.g., class III objects and stars with transi…

Higher-order gravity in higher dimensions: geometrical origins of four-dimensional cosmology?
2017
Determining cosmological field equations represents a still very debated matter and implies a wide discussion around different theoretical proposals. A suitable conceptual scheme could be represented by gravity models that naturally generalize Einstein Theory like higher order gravity theories and higher dimensional ones. Both of these two different approaches allow to define, at the effective level, Einstein field equations equipped with source-like energy momentum tensors of geometrical origin. In this paper, it is discussed the possibility to develop a five dimensional fourth order gravity model whose lower dimensional reduction could provide an interpretation of cosmological four dimens…
Anisotropic deformations in a class of projectively-invariant metric-affine theories of gravity
2020
Among the general class of metric-affine theories of gravity, there is a special class conformed by those endowed with a projective symmetry. Perhaps the simplest manner to realise this symmetry is by constructing the action in terms of the symmetric part of the Ricci tensor. In these theories, the connection can be solved algebraically in terms of a metric that relates to the spacetime metric by means of the so-called deformation matrix that is given in terms of the matter fields. In most phenomenological applications, this deformation matrix is assumed to inherit the symmetries of the matter sector so that in the presence of an isotropic energy-momentum tensor, it respects isotropy. In th…
Imprints of superfluidity on magnetoelastic quasiperiodic oscillations of soft gamma-ray repeaters.
2013
Our numerical simulations show that axisymmetric, torsional, magnetoelastic oscillations of magnetars with a superfluid core can explain the whole range of observed quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs) in the giant flares of soft gamma-ray repeaters. There exist constant phase QPOs at $f\ensuremath{\lesssim}150\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{Hz}$ and resonantly excited high-frequency QPOs ($fg500\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{Hz}$), in good agreement with observations. The range of magnetic field strengths required to match the observed QPO frequencies agrees with that from spin-down estimates. These results suggest that there is at least one superfluid species in magnetar cores.
Follow-up on non-leptonic Kaon decays at large $N_c$
2018
We report on the status of our dynamical simulations of a $SU (N_c )$ gauge theory with $N_c=3-6$ and $N_f =4$ fundamental fermions. These ensembles can be used to study the Large $N_c$ scaling of weak matrix elements in the GIM limit $m_c=m_u$, that might shed some light on the origin of the $\Delta I=1/2$ rule. We present preliminary results for the $K \to \pi$ matrix elements in the $N_c=3$ dynamical simulations, where we observe a significant effect of the quark loops that goes in the direction of enhancing the ratio of $A_0/A_2$ amplitudes. Finally, we present the relevant NLO Chiral Perturbation Theory predictions for the relation between $K \to \pi $ and $K \to \pi \pi$ amplitudes in…
Global frequency and intensity analysis of the / / / band system of 12 C 2 H 4 at 10 μm using the D 2h Top Data System
2016
Abstract A global frequency and intensity analysis of the infrared tetrad of 12C2H4 located in the 600 – 1500 cm − 1 region was carried out using the tensorial formalism developed in Dijon for X2Y4 asymmetric-top molecules. It relied on spectroscopic information available in the literature and retrieved from high-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectra recorded in Brussels in the frame of either the present or previous work. In particular, 645 and 131 line intensities have been respectively measured for the weak ν10 and ν4 bands. Including the Coriolis interactions affecting the upper vibrational levels 101, 71, 41 and 121, a total of 10 757 line positions and 1645 line intensities ha…
Prompt and Follow-up Multi-wavelength Observations of the GRB 161017A
2018
This paper presents data on the simultaneous and complementary observations of the gamma-ray burst (GRB) GRB 161017A for optical, X-ray, and gamma wavelengths obtained by the Russian multi-messenger Lomonosov space observatory and supplemented by additional data from the Swift satellite as well as the ground-based MASTER Global Robotic Net and the 10 m Gran Telescopio Canarias. Multifrequency spectra of this very powerful explosion indicate that it originated at a distance of 10 billion light years from Earth. Here, we present the results of the prompt, early, and afterglow optical observations. The light curves and spectra suggest that the prompt optical and high-energy emissions occur in …
