The Use of Some Clay Minerals as Natural Resources for Drug Carrier Applications

The goal of modern research is to use environmentally preferable materials. In this context, clay minerals are emerging candidates for their bio- and ecocompatibility, low cost and natural availability. Clay minerals present different morphologies according to their layer arrangements. The use of clay minerals, especially in biomedical applications is known from ancient times and they are regaining attention in recent years. The most representative clay minerals are kaolinit, montmorillonite, sepiolites and halloysite. This review summarizes some clay minerals and their derivatives for application as nanocontainer for biologically active species.
Numerical Modeling Approaches of FRCMs/SRG Confined Masonry Columns

The Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrices (FRCMs) and Steel Reinforced Grout (SRG) are a promising strengthening solution for existing masonry since inorganic matrix is considerably compatible with historical substrates. The present paper is focused on a Finite Element (FE) analysis of masonry columns confined with FRCM composites developed by Abaqus-code. The masonry columns were modelled using a macro model approach. A simple analytical model, including local effects due to buckling and shear to moment interaction, was developed to pre-dict the load-carrying capacity of CHS tubes under flexure and shear. A finite-element analysis with ABAQUS Code was also conducted for validation of the proposed model. By properly modeling the imperfection effects due to the ovalization of steel tube, a good correlation of the structural response and failure mode was also achieved, and a good correlation with the analytical model was also achieved. First-passage problem for nonlinear systems under Lévy white noise through path integral method

In this paper, the first-passage problem for nonlinear systems driven by $$\alpha $$ -stable Levy white noises is considered. The path integral solution (PIS) is adopted for determining the reliability function and first-passage time probability density function of nonlinear oscillators. Specifically, based on the properties of $$\alpha $$ -stable random variables and processes, PIS is extended to deal with Levy white noises with any value of the stability index $$\alpha $$ . Application to linear and nonlinear systems considering different values of $$\alpha $$ is reported. Comparisons with pertinent Monte Carlo simulation data demonstrate the accuracy of the results.

In this paper, the probabilistic response of nonlinear systems driven by alpha-stable Lévy white noises is considered. The path integral solution is adopted for determining the evolution of the probability density function of nonlinear oscillators. Specifically, based on the properties of alpha-stable random variables and processes, the path integral solution is extended to deal with Lévy white noises input with any value of the stability index alpha. Direct evaluation of jumps for nonlinear systems under external and multiplicative impulses

In this paper the problem of the response evaluation of nonlinear systems under multiplicative impulsive input is treated. Such systems exhibit a jump at each impulse occurrence, whose value cannot be predicted through the classical differential calculus. In this context here the correct jump evaluation of nonlinear systems is obtained in closed form for two general classes of nonlinear multiplicative functions. Analysis has been performed to show the different typical behaviors of the response, which in some cases could diverge or converge to zero instantaneously, depending on the amplitude of the Dirac's delta.

Abstract A new approach to provide a complete characterization of normal multivariate stochastic vector processes is presented in this paper. Such proposed method is based on the evaluation of the complex spectral moments of the processes. These quantities are strictly related to the Mellin transform and they are the generalization of the integer-order spectral moments introduced by Vanmarcke. Effect of additives on the structural organization of asphaltene aggregates in bitumen

Abstract Bitumens are composite materials whose complex organization hinders the rational understanding of their relationships between composition, structure and performances. So, research attempting to shed more light in this field is required. In this work Wide Angle X ray Scattering (WAXS) has been used to explore the influence of six opportunely chosen additives on the bitumen structure with the aim to ultimately correlate the findings with the bitumen performances. Diagnostic fingerprints have been observed in the WAXS profile: asphaltenes form stuck of about 18 A and constituted by about 6 asphaltene units on average. Application of differently treated illite and illite clay samples for the development of ceramics

Abstract This study represents the results of investigations on the possible geopolymer formation of an alkali, mechanically and thermally (including hydrothermally) activated 2:1 layer silicate, namely, illite and illite clay, for low-temperature ceramic products. The main starting materials were Quaternary illite clay samples taken from the Apriki–Laza pit in Latvia.
