On asymmetric periodic solutions in relay feedback systems

Abstract Asymmetric self-excited periodic motions or periodic solutions which are produced by relay feedback systems that have symmetric characteristics are studied in the paper. Two different mechanisms of producing an asymmetric oscillation by a system with symmetric properties are noted and analyzed by the locus of a perturbed relay system (LPRS) method. Bifurcation between the ability to excite symmetric and asymmetric oscillation with variation of system parameters is analyzed. An algorithm of finding asymmetric solutions is proposed.

Polarity reversal in HVDC joints - The effect of the axial thermal conduction

It has been shown that the establishment of a thermal gradient over the radius of HVDC cables involves the accumulation of space charge within the dielectric layer. High thermal gradients over the insulation thickness of loaded cables can lead to the inversion of the radial electric field pattern. In this scenarios, transient overvoltages and polarity reversal can lead to local and transitory peaks of electric field. Improving the high temperature oxidation resistance of Ti-β21S by mechanical surface treatment

The improvement of the high temperature oxidation resistance of titanium alloys is currently a technological challenge. Mechanical surface treatments as shot-peening (SP) have shown their ability to improve the behaviour of pure zirconium and titanium. However, shot-peening treatments can induce a significant surface contamination. Laser shock peening (LSP) appears as a good alternative. Here, we have investigated the effect of SP and LSP treatments on the HT oxidation behavior of Ti-β21S. Samples treated by these methods have been compared to untreated ones for long exposures (3000 h) at 700 °C in dry air. With the increasing penetration of renewable and decentralized energy sources into the power grid, an extended use of DC voltages is expected on both distribution and transmission levels. The PEA method is the most used technique for the space charge measurements. As is well known, this method uses pressure waves to detect the charges accumulated in solid dielectrics. Based on its working principle, the generated acoustic waves travel within PEA cell and the specimen under test in order to be finally detected by the piezoelectric sensor. International audience; Single-sensor colour imaging systems mostly employ a colour filter array (CFA). This enables the acquisition of a colour image by a single sensor at one exposure at the cost of reduced spatial resolution. The idea of CFA fit itself well with multispectral purposes by incorporating more than three types of filters into the array which results in multispectral filter array (MSFA). In comparison with a CFA, an MSFA trades spatial resolution for spectral resolution. Pressure‐induced widths and shifts for the ν3 band of methane

International audience; Widths and shifts of methane lines perturbed by nitrogen are calculated using a complex-valued implementation of Robert-Bonamy (RB) theory. The static intermolecular potential is described as a sum of electrostatic forces and Lennard-Jones (6-12) atom-atom terms, using literature values for all physical parameters. Vibrational dependence of the isotropic potential is obtained from the polarizability of methane assuming a dispersion interaction. The repulsive part of the Lennard-Jones accounts for the greatest part of widths, while dispersion interactions are largely responsible for shifts. Nous comparons experimentalement les resultats de la caracterisation en intensite et en phase d'impulsions optiques ultracourtes obtenus par differentes techniques employant un montage auto/inter-correlateur en intensite et un analyseur de spectre. Nous employons pour ces tests une impulsion en limite de Fourier, une impulsion affectee par l'auto-modulation de phase et une impulsion similariton.
