Genetic variability at αs2-casein gene in Girgentana dairy goat breed

2014

Casein genes are highly polymorphic and the high degree of variability has qualitative and quantitative effects on milk composition thereby affecting chemical, physical and technological properties of goat milk. The aim of this work was to evaluate the genetic polymorphisms of the αs2-casein (CSN1S2) gene in the endangered Girgentana dairy goat breed in order to assess the genotypes distribution, as it is known genotype influences technological and nutritional milk properties. The study was performed on 207 sample of Girgentana goat breed, analysed with different PCR protocols. The most frequent alleles was A (0.722), followed by F (0.225), C (0.051) and E (0.002) while B, D and 0 alleles w…

Inverse problems Research Group

Inverse problems research concentrates on the mathematical theory and practical implementation of indirect measurements. Applications are found in numerous research fields involving scientific, medical or industrial imaging; familiar examples include X-ray computed tomography and ultrasound imaging. Inverse problems have a rich mathematical theory employing modern methods in partial differential equations, harmonic analysis, and differential geometry.

Medical Chemistry Group

The Medical Chemistry Group is focused on medicinal and bioinorganic chemistry, mainly related to peptides and proteins. In general, projects on the interaction of biologically important macromolecules with other molecules or metal ions are underway. Two National Science Centre grants are being realized by group members. One of them is about hot topic – SARS-Cov2/virus protein interaction with human receptor. The second is about interaction of iron ions with small heat shock protein, which is involved in ferroptosis (programmed cell death dependent on iron). Cooperation includes research centers in Poland and abroad, e.g. University of Wroclaw and USA, but also other faculties of University…

Woman entrepreneur and social entrepreneurship

The scope of MEYES is women entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. In the 1980s, the first studies on women entrepreneurs emerged, highlighting the differences between female and male entrepreneurs: business characteristics, motivations for engaging in entrepreneurial activities, assessment of the main obstacles in starting and developing a business, personal traits, management styles, or chosen industry sectors. These differences justify studying women entrepreneurs independently from conventional or standard business theory, which compares female entrepreneurs to their male counterparts. In this sense, the use of male values, ways of thinking, and acting in the analysis of female e…
