Abstract In 1648, an uprising broke out in Ukraine that belonged to Poland at the time. The war was not successful for the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Cossacks and Tartars, who were helping them during the war, surrounded Zbaraż, about whose defense everyone knew in the country. King Jan Kazimierz decided to set out to rescue the besieged fortress. It was decided that not only Polish troops, but also soldiers of Lithuania would set out for Ukraine. Five acetate-diphenoxo triply-bridged Co-II-Ln(III) complexes (Ln(I) = Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er) of formula [Co(mu-L)(mu-Ac)Ln(NO3)(2)] and two diphenoxo doubly-bridged Co-II-Ln(III) complexes (Ln(III) = Gd, Tb) of formula [Co(H2O)(mu-L)Ln(NO3)(3)]center dot S (S = H2O or MeOH), were prepared in one pot reaction from the compartmental ligand N,N',N ''-trimethyl-N,N ''-bis(2-hydroxy3-methoxy-5-methylbenzyl)diethylene triamine (H2L). The origin of enzyme catalysis remains a question of debate despite much intense study. We report a QM/MM theoretical study of the SN2 methyl transfer reaction catalyzed by a glycine N-methyltransferase (GNMT) and three mutants to test whether recent experimental observations of rate-constant reductions and variations in inverse secondary α-3H kinetic isotope effects (KIEs) should be attributed to changes in the methyl donor−acceptor distance (DAD): is catalysis due to a compression effect? Semiempirical (AM1) and DFT (M06-2X) methods were used to describe the QM subset of atoms, while OPLS-AA and TIP3P classical force fields were used for the protein and water molecules, respectively. Improved sample preparation for the testosterone hydroxylation assay using disposable extraction columns

The preparation of samples for injection into a high-performance liquid chromatograph from assay mixtures for the determination of cytochrome P-450-dependent testosterone hydroxylation has been substantially facilitated. By replacing the multiple cumbersome extraction steps of the conventional method with a single column extraction the time for sample preparation was reduced from hours to minutes. The new procedure also yields better recoveries for most of the testosterone metabolites than the original protocol. Aggregation of the amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) into fibrillar structures is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. Thus, preventing self-assembly of the Aβ peptide is an attractive therapeutic strategy. Here, we used experimental techniques and atomistic simulations to investigate the influence of carnosine, a dipeptide naturally occurring in the brain, on Aβ aggregation. Scanning force microscopy, circular dichroism and thioflavin T fluorescence experiments showed that carnosine does not modify the conformational features of Aβ42 but nonetheless inhibits amyloid growth. Se analizan en este artículo las opiniones versadas por Giraldi Cinthio sobre la Celestina en su Discorso. Giraldi compara la tragicomedia española con la comedia arquea o aristofánica, basándose para ello en las definiciones de la comedia antigua procedentes del opúsculo De Comoedia y los comentarios de Donato y otros retóricos a las obras de Terencio. Para demostrar el juicio sesgado de sus afirmaciones sobre la obra española, se examinan sus teorías sobre la comedia expuesta en su Discorso así como en su única comedia Gli Eudemoni; posteriormente se recopilan las diferentes impresiones de la Celestina en Italia, y se concluye que lo más probable es que Giraldi nunca tuviera en sus manos …
