Working the fields of big data : Using big-data-augmented online ethnography to study candidate–candidate interaction at election time

The paper proposes big-data-augmented ethnography as a novel mixed-methods approach to studying political discussions in a hybrid media system. Using such empirical setup, the authors examined candidate–candidate online interaction during election campaigning. Candidate–candidate interaction crossing party boundaries is scarce and occurs in the form of negative campaigning via social media, with the shaming of rival candidates and engaging in battles with them. Background: The secular decline in labor market participation and the concurrent increase in opioid use in many developed countries have sparked a policy debate on the possible connection between these two trends. We examined whether the use of prescription opioids was connected to labor market outcomes relating to participation, employment and unemployment among the Finnish population. Ik gadu pasaulē tiek jaunreģistrēti aptuveni viens miljons slimības gadījumu. Latvijā 2015. gadā jaunreģistrēti bija 583 kuņģa vēža gadījumi, kas ir augsta slimības incidence Latvijas populācijā. Vīriešiem kuņģa vēzi diagnosticē vidēji divas reizes biežāk nekā sievietēm. Liela daļa slimības gadījumu tiek atklāta vēlīnās stadijās, kas pasliktina pacientu prognozi. The images of the bombing in Palermo in May 1943 are still etched in the collective memory. Some of the lacerations caused by the bombs are still clearly visible in the historic city centre, which has been the subject, since the post-war period, of numerous proposals that have remained in the drawer, images of an ethical and civil responsibility that has remained unheard. Old images of war and maps of ideas intersect in a history only apparently concluded in which they become generators of meaning and also bearers of messages relating to a desire for renewal.
