History of bioavailable lead and iron in the Greater North Sea and Iceland during the last millennium – A bivalve sclerochronological reconstruction

We present the first annually resolved record of biologically available Pb and Fe in the Greater North Sea and Iceland during 1040-2004 AD based on shells of the long-lived marine bivalve Arctica islandica. The iron content in pre-industrial shells from the North Sea largely remained below the detection limit. Only since 1830, shell Fe levels rose gradually reflecting the combined effect of increased terrestrial runoff of iron-bearing sediments and eutrophication. Although the lead gasoline peak of the 20th century was well recorded by the shells, bivalves that lived during the medieval heyday of metallurgy showed four-fold higher shell Pb levels than modern specimens. [ES] Se estudia la labor de Joseph Ricarte, pensionado en París y luego en Centroeuropa, para estudiar el método de amalgamación de Born. El trabajo de Ricarte fue especialmente interesante en la Escuela de minas de Schemnitz, a cargo del profesor Antón Ruprecht, en 1787, aunque también se exponen los viajes de aprendizaje con Andrés Manuel del Río por diversas regiones centroeuropeas (Alta y baja Hungría, Austria, Bohemia,etc...) hasta su llegada a Freiberg, en Sajonia, donde estudiaron con A. Werner y fueron compañeros de Alexander von Humboldt. Acompaña al artículo una disertación de Ricarte sobre las mejoras introducidas por Ruprecht al método del barón de Born.

This research aims to analyze recruitment by quintas, Spanish word for recruitment levies by lot, in the city of Valencia and the townships included in its jurisdictional area. The analyzed period began in 1717 with the first levie decreted by king Philip V once the War of Spanish Succession was over. Applied this levie in the kingdom of Valencia, this was the first application of levies by lot. The closing year for the reported period up to 1762, whith the last levy made by king Charles III before the establishment of the annual periodicity for the recruitment process. La ausencia de tratados completos sobre silvicultura en la España del siglo xviii se suplió en parte con traducciones. El botánico Casimiro Gómez Ortega publicó en 1773 la traducción de la obra del agrónomo Duhamel du Monceau Des semis et plantations des bois (1760). En este artículo, estudiaremos 19 términos propios de esta disciplina desde un punto de vista lexicográfico comparando las definiciones en distintos diccionarios y en el glosario incluido en la obra origen y en la traducción. The contribution analyzes two drawings from a project by Giovanni Amico (1733) for the Benedictine library of the monastic complex of San Martino delle Scale, near Palermo, whose construction has undergone successive transformations. The models pursued by the architect from Trapani confirm his interests and the interference of the client, both aimed at the production from beyond the Alps at the time of the Habsburg domination of the island.
