The essay identifies key patterns in a group of music dictionaries printed in some Slavic Central-Eastern European lands from the time of national awakening to the 20th-century’s post war period. The common approach of first Polish, Bohemian, and Croatian lexica imply the difficulty in choosing between two different criteria. Given that the three lands were under the administration of Prussian, Russian and Austrian governments, the problem emerged either in creating an exclusive list of names based on the concept of nationality, or in writing an inclusive list of “stranger” and domestic musicians, who contributed together to the development of music culture. The tanslation of Edmondo De Amicis works was undertaken in Spain by Hermenegildo Giner de los Ríos. This paper presents an analysis of the first edition of Cuore. Libro per I ragazzi (1886) and its first translation into Castillian, Corazón (Diario de un niño) (1887), in which we can see the frequent use of domesticating technique, with adaptations, omissions, amplifications and modulations. However, besides this, we can also perceive a strengthering of the text of by the translator, through a process that tries to readdress it to the new readers with a new literary efficiency.

This essay analyses certain passages by the 19th century Sicilian historiography on the Spanish vice-reign in the island where the main tendency was the anti-Spanish movement. The joint opinion of the historians, here analyzed, consisted of a great love for their country based on a nostalgic cult of its indipendent reign and its institutions. The latter were a constant reason of consolation compared to the present reality, which seemed very disappointing and awkward if compared with the "mythical" previos ages.
