COVID-19: Relationship and Impact on Breastfeeding-A Systematic Review.

2021

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization (WHO). One major problem faced is whether breastfeeding by mothers infected with the virus is safe. The objective of this work is to study the impact that the SARS-CoV-2 virus can have on breastfeeding, and whether the virus or antibodies can be transmitted from mother to child through milk. We carried out a systematic review of studies focusing on the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on breastfeeding by mothers infected with the virus. The bibliographic search was done through Medline (Pubmed), MedlinePlus and Google Scholar. From 292 re…

Hospital Admissions for Acute Myocardial Infarction Before and After Lockdown According to Regional Prevalence of COVID-19 and Patient Profile

2020

Aim: to evaluate the impact of a nationwide lockdown in France on acute myocardial infarction (AMI) admissions, by patient characteristics and regional prevalence of the pandemic. Methods and Results: We collected data from 21 centres participating in the on-going FRENCHIE registry (NCT04050956), which collects data from all patients admitted for STEMI or NSTEMI within 48 hours of symptom onset. We compared weekly admissions in the 4 weeks preceding and the 4 weeks following institution of the lockdown. We observed a brutal 30% decrease in AMI admissions (24% for STEMI and 36% for NSTEMI, P=0.14) following institution of the lockdown, with similar trends according to gender (30% decrease in…

Mortality associated with cardiovascular disease in patients with COVID-19

2020

Cardiopulmonary exercise testing in COVID-19 patients at 3 months follow-up

2021

Abstract Background Long-term effects of Coronavirus Disease of 2019 (COVID-19) and their sustainability are of the utmost relevance. For the chronic phase, the main concerns are the development of pulmonary interstitial disease and/or lingering cardiovascular involvement. How to intercept, assess, and treat these patients with long-term consequences of COVID-19 remains uncertain. Purpose We aimed to determine: 1) functional capacity of COVID-19 survivors by cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET); 2) those characteristics associated with CPET performance; 3) safety and tolerability of CPET. Methods We prospectively enrolled consecutive patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 discharged…

Chronic Pain and COVID-19: pathophysiological, clinical and organizational issues

2020

During the lockdown phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, a call not to neglect the continuum of care of patients who present with chronic diseases, including pain, was made. In the field of pain, COVID-19 had an impact both from a clinical (i.e., the influence of SARS-CoV-2 infection on pain) and organizational (i.e., how patients with chronic pain should be managed in the post-COVID-19 era) perspective. Furthermore, patients with chronic pain are also frequently frail subjects, affected from multiple comorbidities and hence are at increased risk of infection. On these bases, how the necessity to continue pain therapy will be pursued in the post-COVID-19 era? In this paper, we comment on the abo…

Impact of COVID-19 on the work of Spanish dentists: An early response to the pandemic

2021

Background This study aimed to assess the quality of the information about COVID-19 that Spanish dentists felt they were provided; their opinion about the actions by Health Institutions; their perception of the risk infection at work; and the security measures implemented to prevent contagion. Material and Methods A specific questionnaire was developed and made available online from March 18th to 20th 2020. Dentists working in Spain were invited to answer. Questions were divided in 4 sections: demographic data and professional activity; specific information on COVID-19 and opinion about the decisions taken by Dental Councils and Health Authorities; risk assessment for SARS-CoV-2 in dental p…

Children and Coronavirus Infection (Covid-19): What to Tell Children to Avoid Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

2020

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that can develop in subjects who have been or have witnessed a traumatic, catastrophic or violent event, or who have become aware of a traumatic experience that happened to a loved one. Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) usually begins immediately after the traumatic event and lasts from three days to a month, while Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) may be the continuation of an acute stress disorder and it may happen that it does not develop until 6 months after the event itself. Generally most people overcome the shock that a blatant event can cause without the need for additional support. In a percentage of cases, the victim's suffering c…

Recent Randomized Trials of Antithrombotic Therapy for Patients With COVID-19

2021

Endothelial injury and microvascular/macrovascular thrombosis are common pathophysiological features of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). However, the optimal thromboprophylactic regimens remain unknown across the spectrum of illness severity of COVID-19. A variety of antithrombotic agents, doses, and durations of therapy are being assessed in ongoing randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that focus on outpatients, hospitalized patients in medical wards, and patients critically ill with COVID-19. This paper provides a perspective of the ongoing or completed RCTs related to antithrombotic strategies used in COVID-19, the opportunities and challenges for the clinical trial enterprise, and ar…
