Feasibility study of electromechanical cylinder drivetrain for offshore mechatronic systems
2017
Currently, there is an increasing focus on the environmental impact and energy consumption of the oil and gas industry. In offshore drilling equipment, electric motors tend to replace traditionally used hydraulic motors, especially in rotational motion control applications. However, force densities available from linear hydraulic actuators are still typically higher than those of electric actuators. Therefore, usually the remaining source of hydraulic power is thereby the hydraulic cylinder. This paper presents a feasibility study on the implementation of an electromechanical cylinder drivetrain on an offshore vertical pipe handling machine. The scope of this paper is to investigate the fea…
Adaptive consensus-based distributed detection in WSN with unreliable links
2016
Event detection is a crucial tasks in wireless sensor networks. The importance of a fast response makes distributed strategies, where nodes exchange information just with their one-hop neighbors to reach local decisions, more adequate than schemes where all nodes send observations to a central entity. Distributed detectors are usually based on average consensus, where all nodes iteratively communicate to asymptotically agree on a final result. In a realistic scenario, communications are subject to random failures, which impacts the performance of the consensus. We propose an alternative detector, which adapts to the statistical properties of the consensus and compensate deviations from the …
Interdisciplinary design methodology for systems of mechatronic systems focus on highly dynamic environmental applications
2017
This paper discusses a series of research challenges in the design of systems of mechatronic systems. A focus is given to environmental mechatronic applications within the chain “Renewable energy production — Smart grids — Electric vehicles”. For the considered mechatronic systems, the main design targets are formulated, the relations to state and parameter estimation, disturbance observation and rejection as well as control algorithms are highlighted. Finally, the study introduces an interdisciplinary design approach based on the intersectoral transfer of knowledge and collaborative experimental activities.
Image Enhancement Algorithm for Optical Microstructural Characterization of Shape Memory TiNi Friction Stir Processed
2017
Abstract A key topic regarding TiNi alloys concerns the possibility to attain junctions that preserve the shape memory properties of material. Experimental tests, previously performed on TiNi sheet friction stir processed, have highlighted the need to develop an appropriate image analysis method to quantify the various phases percentages present in the characteristics zones of Friction Stir Welding process. A proper Image Processing procedure has been performed in order to quantify the amount of the martensitic phase and to detect its morphology modification along to the processed region. Particularly each micrographic image, firstly, has been denoised using the 2D Wavelet transform techniq…
Introducing a Fuzzy-Pattern Operator in Fuzzy Time Series
2017
In this paper we introduce a fuzzy pattern operator and propose a new weighting fuzzy time series strategy for generating accurate ex-post forecasts. A decision support system is built for managing the weights of the information provided by the historical data, under a fuzzy time series framework. Our procedure analyzes the historical performance of the time series using different experiments, and it classifies the characteristics of the series through a fuzzy operator, providing a trapezoidal fuzzy number as one-step ahead forecast. We also present some numerical results related to the predictive performance of our procedure with time series of financial data sets.
Reliable diagnostics using wireless sensor networks
2019
International audience; Monitoring activities in industry may require the use of wireless sensor networks, for instance due to difficult access or hostile environment. But it is well known that this type of networks has various limitations like the amount of disposable energy. Indeed, once a sensor node exhausts its resources, it will be dropped from the network, stopping so to forward information about maybe relevant features towards the sink. This will result in broken links and data loss which impacts the diagnostic accuracy at the sink level. It is therefore important to keep the network's monitoring service as long as possible by preserving the energy held by the nodes. As packet trans…
A new AR authoring tool using depth maps for industrial procedures
2013
Several augmented reality systems have been proposed for different target fields such as medical, cultural heritage and military. However, most of the current AR authoring tools are actually programming interfaces that are exclusively suitable for programmers. In this paper, we propose an AR authoring tool which provides advanced visual effect, such as occlusion or media contents. This tool allows non-programming users to develop low-cost AR applications, specially oriented to on-site assembly and maintenance/repair tasks. A new 3D edition interface is proposed, using photos and Kinect depth information to improve 3D scenes composition. In order to validate our AR authoring tool, two evalua…
Health Indicator for Low-Speed Axial Bearings Using Variational Autoencoders
2020
This paper proposes a method for calculating a health indicator (HI) for low-speed axial rolling element bearing (REB) health assessment by utilizing the latent representation obtained by variational inference using Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), trained on each speed reference in the dataset. Further, versatility is added by conditioning on the speed, extending the VAE to a conditional VAE (CVAE), thereby incorporating all speeds in a single model. Within the framework, the coefficients of autoregressive (AR) models are used as features. The dimensionality reduction inherent in the proposed method lowers the need of expert knowledge to design good condition indicators. Moreover, the sugg…
Central catadioptric image processing with geodesic metric
2011
International audience; Because of the distortions produced by the insertion of a mirror, catadioptric images cannot be processed similarly to classical perspective images. Now, although the equivalence between such images and spherical images is well known, the use of spherical harmonic analysis often leads to image processing methods which are more difficult to implement. In this paper, we propose to define catadioptric image processing from the geodesic metric on the unitary sphere. We show that this definition allows to adapt very simply classical image processing methods. We focus more particularly on image gradient estimation, interest point detection, and matching. More generally, th…
Graph Filtering of Time-Varying Signals over Asymmetric Wireless Sensor Networks
2019
In many applications involving wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the observed data can be modeled as signals defined over graphs. As a consequence, an increasing interest has been witnessed to develop new methods to analyze graph signals, leading to the emergence of the field of Graph Signal Processing. One of the most important processing tools in this field is graph filters, which can be easily implemented distributedly over networks by means of cooperation among the nodes. Most of previous works related to graph filters assume the same connection probability in both link directions when transmitting an information between two neighboring nodes. This assumption is not realistic in practice…
