Is Seniority a Partial Dynamic Symmetry in the First $\nu g_{9/2}$ Shell?

2018

The low-lying structures of the midshell νg9/2 Ni isotopes 72Ni and 74Ni have been investigated at the RIBF facility in RIKEN within the EURICA collaboration. Previously unobserved low-lying states were accessed for the first time following β decay of the mother nuclei 72Co and 74Co. As a result, we provide a complete picture in terms of the seniority scheme up to the first (8+) levels for both nuclei. The experimental results are compared to shell-model calculations in order to define to what extent the seniority quantum number is preserved in the first neutron g9/2 shell. We find that the disappearance of the seniority isomerism in the (81+) states can be explained by a lowering of the se…

On the decay of theJπ= 11/2−,T1/2= 38.9 h isomer in133Ba: search for the E5 transition and verification of the EC branch

2010

International audience; This paper presents a search for the competing 11/2 − → 1/2 + E5 branch to the main 11/2 − → 3/2 + M4 transition from the T 1/2 = 39 h, J π = 11/2 − isomeric state in 133 Ba. An upper limit of 1.8 * 10 −5 could be established for the E5/M4 intensity ratio. In addition a long-standing controversy in the EC-decay of the same isomer was resolved: only one EC branch to the 11/2 + state in 133 Cs was observed. The shell-model structures of the involved states in 133 Ba and 133 Cs were studied with the microscopic quasiparticle-phonon model (MQPM). Good agreement with the decay rates B(λ) was obtained. In particular, the B(M4) value is well reproduced and further only one …

Shell-model calculation of isospin-symmetry breaking correction to superallowed Fermi beta-decay

2016

We investigate the radial-overlap part of the isospin-symmetry breaking correction to superallowed $0^+\to 0^+$-decay using the shell-model approach similar to that of Refs. [1, 2]. The 8 sd-shell emitters with masses between $A=22$ and $A=38$ have been re-examined. The Fermi matrix element is evaluated with realistic spherical single-particle wave functions, obtained from spherical Woods-Saxon (WS) or Hartree-Fock (HF) potentials, fine-tuned to reproduce the experimental data on charge radii and separation energies for nuclei of interest. The elaborated adjustment procedure removes any sensitivity of the correction to a specific parametrisation of the WS potential or to various versions of…

Isospin mixing and the continuum coupling in weakly bound nuclei

2009

The isospin breaking effects due to the Coulomb interaction in weakly-bound nuclei are studied using the Gamow Shell Model, a complex-energy configuration interaction approach which simultaneously takes into account many-body correlations between valence nucleons and continuum effects. We investigate the near-threshold behavior of one-nucleon spectroscopic factors and the structure of wave functions along an isomultiplet. Illustrative calculations are carried out for the T=1 isobaric triplet. By using a shell-model Hamiltonian consisting of an isoscalar nuclear interaction and the Coulomb term, we demonstrate that for weakly bound or unbound systems the structure of isobaric analog states v…

Competing T = 0 and T = 1 structures in the N = Z nucleus $^{62}_{31}$Ga

1998

Abstract The low-lying levels in the odd-odd N = Z nucleus 62 Ga have been identified for the first time. These data reveal a cascade of stretched-E2 transitions based on a T =0, 1 + bandhead which decays directly to the T =1, 0 + ground state. The observed levels are interpreted in the context of theshell model, using as a basis, the pf 5/2 g 9/2 orbits with a 56 Ni core.
