Highly sensitive olfactory biosensors for the detection of volatile organic compounds by surface plasmon resonance imaging

International audience; Nowadays, monitoring of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is very important in various domains. In this work, we aimed to develop sensitive olfactory biosensors using odorant binding proteins (OBPs) as sensing materials. Three rat OBP3 derivatives with customized binding properties were designed and immobilized on the same chip for the detection of VOCs in solution by surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi). We demonstrated that the proteins kept their binding properties after the immobilization under optimized conditions. Empathy, Entrainment, and Perceived Interaction in Complex Dyadic Dance Movement

The current study explores how individuals' tendency to empathize with others (trait empathy) modulates interaction and social entrainment in dyadic dance in a free movement context using perceptual and computationally derived measures. Stimuli consisting of 24 point-light animations were created using motion capture data selected from a sample of 99 dyads, based on self-reported trait empathy. Osallistumiseen kasvattaminen on keskeinen, läpi elämän jatkuva sosialisaation haaste. Konkreettinen osallistumiseen kasvattamisen keino on tekstin yhteinen tuottaminen kasvokkaisessa vuorovaikutuksessa, mitä tässä tapaustutkimuksessa tarkastelemme kahdessa ryhmässä: 1) uusiin työkäytänteisiin keskittyvässä henkilöstökoulutuksessa ja 2) työelämään valmentavassa mielenterveyskuntoutuksessa. In this article, we apply critical discourse analysis and ethnography to examine conceptionsand experiences of inclusive interaction and language use in the context of eldercare in aretirement home. Our data consist of interviews with residents, nurses and managers intwo bilingual eldercare units, as well as ethnographic observations of communication andlanguage use in these units. Traces of the past: an interview study with Finnish war children who did not return to Finland after the Second World War

ABSTRACTThis paper is an in-depth qualitative study based on interviews with 10 Finnish children who were evacuated to Sweden during Second World War and who did not return to Finland after the war. The interviewees were asked to tell about their lives. Nine of them were between 2 and 5 years and one was 7 years old at the time of evacuation. The aim was to study how their childhood experiences were reflected in adult memories, how they remembered or did not remember. Background: The secular decline in labor market participation and the concurrent increase in opioid use in many developed countries have sparked a policy debate on the possible connection between these two trends. We examined whether the use of prescription opioids was connected to labor market outcomes relating to participation, employment and unemployment among the Finnish population. In this study the task is to point out the key features in the making of a Swedish nation from the perspective of a minority language, i.e. the Finnish speaking minority in the region of Norrbotten, Sweden. Swedish historians usually list the fear of Russia (Russia, the arch-enemy -topos) and the Laestadian movement as main reasons for the policy of cultural assimilation of the Finnish-speaking minority.
