CD73 a novel marker for the diagnosis of benign and malignant salivary gland tumors

Background Ecto-5’-nucleotidase (CD73) plays an important role in the development of several types of cancer; however, its prognostic significance in salivary gland tumors remains unknown. The current study was conducted to investigate the expression of CD73 in such tumors. Material and Methods In this retrospective study, immunohistochemical expression of CD73 was evaluated in 25 pleomorphic adenomas, 20 mucoepidermoid carcinomas and 20 adenoid cystic carcinomas using the Envision technique. The histological diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma (Es) continues to be a difficult task for pathologists. A number of new Es varieties has been described, leading to further complexity. Conventional Es, atypical Es, and peripheral neuroectodermal tumor (pPNET), including peripheral neuroepithelioma, belong genetically to the same family of neoplasms, displaying common chromosomal rearrangements and analogous gene reorganizations. In Situ Activation of Pituitary-Infiltrating T Lymphocytes in Autoimmune Hypophysitis

AbstractAutoimmune hypophysitis (AH) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by infiltration of T and B lymphocytes in the pituitary gland. The mechanisms through which infiltrating lymphocytes cause disease remain unknown. Using a mouse model of AH we assessed whether T lymphocytes undergo activation in the pituitary gland. Infiltrating T cells co-localized with dendritic cells in the pituitary and produced increased levels of interferon-γ and interleukin-17 upon stimulation in vitro. Recently, in vitro anti-cancer properties of beauvericin, a fungal metabolite were shown in various cancer cell lines. In this study, we assessed the specificity of this effect by comparing beauvericin cytotoxicity in malignant versus non-malignant cells. Moreover, we tested in vivo anticancer effects of beauvericin by treating BALB/c and CB-17/SCID mice bearing murine CT-26 or human KB-3-1-grafted tumors, respectively.
