Hexakis(diethylacetamide)iron(II) hexahalorhenate(IV) ionic salts: X-ray structures and magnetic properties

Two novel Fe<sup>II</sup>-Re<sup>IV</sup> compounds of general formula [Fe<sup>II</sup>(DEA)<inf>6</inf>][Re<sup>IV</sup>X<inf>6</inf>] where DEA = diethylacetamide and X = Cl (1) and Br (2) have been prepared and magnetostructurally characterised. Complexes 1 and 2 are isomorphic ionic salts that crystallise in the trigonal crystal system with space group R(-3). The rhenium(IV) ion in 1 and 2 is six-coordinate with six chloro (1) or bromo (2) ligands building a regular octahedral chromophore. However, a high degree of precision in the characterization of the noisy experimental apparatus is required to apply existing quantum-state engineering protocols. Angular Trapping of Anisometric Nano-Objects in a Fluid

We demonstrate the ability to trap, levitate, and orient single anisometric nanoscale objects with high angular precision in a fluid. An electrostatic fluidic trap confines a spherical object at a spatial location defined by the minimum of the electrostatic system free energy. For an anisometric object and a potential well lacking angular symmetry, the system free energy can further strongly depend on the object's orientation in the trap. Engineering the morphology of the trap thus enables precise spatial and angular confinement of a single levitating nano-object, and the process can be massively parallelized. Quantum Rescaling, Domain Metastability, and Hybrid Domain-Walls in 2D CrI3 Magnets

Higher-order exchange interactions and quantum effects are widely known to play an important role in describing the properties of low-dimensional magnetic compounds. Here, the recently discovered 2D van der Waals (vdW) CrI3 is identified as a quantum non-Heisenberg material with properties far beyond an Ising magnet as initially assumed. It is found that biquadratic exchange interactions are essential to quantitatively describe the magnetism of CrI3 but quantum rescaling corrections are required to reproduce its thermal properties. The thermal responsive behavior of adsorbed layers of diblock copolymers of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM) and poly((3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride) (PAMPTMA(+)) with γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) at the solid/liquid interface has been investigated using three in situ techniques: null ellipsometry, quartz–crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring, and neutron reflectometry. Abstract The effect of through-thickness compressive stress on mode II interlaminar fracture toughness is investigated experimentally and replicated numerically. The modified Transverse Crack Tensile specimen recently proposed by the authors is used, together with an experimental device designed to apply a constant transverse compressive stress on the surface of the specimen. Experiments are conducted using IM7/8552 specimens for different compressive stresses, ranging from 0 to 100 MPa, covering all the practical applications commonly encountered in the aeronautical industry (e.g., tightened filled holes or bolted joints).
