An Expanded 2D Fused Aromatic Network with 90-Ring Hexagons
2022
[EN]Two-dimensional fused aromatic networks (2D FANs) have emerged as a highly versatile alternative to holey graphene. The synthesis of 2D FANs with increasingly larger lattice dimensions will enable new application perspectives. However, the synthesis of larger analogues is mostly limited by lack of appropriate monomers and methods. Herein, we describe the synthesis, characterisation and properties of an expanded 2D FAN with 90-ring hexagons, which exceed the largest 2D FAN lattices reported to date. This work was carried out with support from the Basque Science Foundation for Science (Ikerbasque),POLYMAT, the University of the Basque Country,Gobierno Vasco (BERC programme) and Gobierno d…
Crossed 2D versus Slipped 1D π-Stacking in Polymorphs of Crystalline Organic Thin Films
2019
Polymorphs of organic semiconductors are of great interest as they shed light to structure-property relationships. The full X-ray thin film structure analysis of two polymorphs (B, G) of an important n-type semiconducting dicyano-distyrylbenzene based small molecule (CN-TFPA) is reported. Drastically different structures of the monotropic phases are revealed, that is an uncommon 2D crossed π-stacked arrangement for the B-phase versus a 1D slipped π-stack for G. Both phases exhibit a layered structure in the (100) plane with high structural integrity, driven by the hydrophobic contacts of the terminal CF3 groups; as (100) coincides with the film surface, this allows for exfoliation by scotch…
Probabilities of large values for sums of i.i.d. non-negative random variables with regular tail of index $-1$
2021
Let $\xi_1, \xi_2, \dots$ be i.i.d. non-negative random variables whose tail varies regularly with index $-1$, let $S_n$ be the sum and $M_n$ the largest of the first $n$ values. We clarify for which sequences $x_n\to\infty$ we have $\mathbb P(S_n \ge x_n) \sim \mathbb P(M_n \ge x_n)$ as $n\to\infty$. Outside this regime, the typical size of $S_n$ conditioned on exceeding $x_n$ is not completely determined by the largest summand and we provide an appropriate correction term which involves the integrated tail of $\xi_1$.

Metabolic pathways and regulatory networks associated to NAI-107 lantibiotic production in Microbispora sp. ATCC-PTA-5024
2015
The filamentous actinobacterium Microbispora sp. ATCC-PTA-5024 produces the lantibiotic NAI-107, which is effective against multidrugresistant Gram-positive pathogens. In actinomycetes, the biosynthesis of antibiotics is elicited as a physiological response that is controlled by a complex regulatory network involving general and pathwayspecific regulators. The ‘omics technologies can be useful to explore molecular physiology in bacterial cells and elucidate molecular and metabolic events associated to antibiotic production in order to develop robust and economically-feasible production processes. To this aim, differential proteomic analyses, based two-dimensional difference in gel electroph…

MonoGame- ja Unity-ympäristöjen vertailu pelinkehityksessä
2017
A Review of Recent Advances in Ear Recognition
2011
Ear recognition has become a rapidly growing research area in recent years. This paper gives an up-to-date review of research works in ear recognition based on 3D data and 2D ear images. For ear recognition in 3D, recent works on 3D feature extraction and model matching are presented and discussed. For 3D ear recognition based on 2D images, 3D ear model reconstruction is mainly discussed. For ear recognition in 2D, main research works on ear detection, ear feature extraction and classification are presented and discussed. Some possible future research interests are proposed in the end.
Analysis of DNA sequence variation within marine species using Beta-coalescents
2013
We apply recently developed inference methods based on general coalescent processes to DNA sequence data obtained from various marine species. Several of these species are believed to exhibit so-called shallow gene genealogies, potentially due to extreme reproductive behaviour, e.g. via Hedgecock's "reproduction sweepstakes". Besides the data analysis, in particular the inference of mutation rates and the estimation of the (real) time to the most recent common ancestor, we briefly address the question whether the genealogies might be adequately described by so-called Beta coalescents (as opposed to Kingman's coalescent), allowing multiple mergers of genealogies. The choice of the underlying…
Animated Representations. Multimedia Techniques for Storytelling
2023
The paper presents the results of two case studies that use multimedia language for the knowledge, appreciation and communication of works of art of different epochs, nature and location and that, through the tools of Representation, make use of digital methods of animation and visualisation. The final results concern the creation of multimedia products designed to narrate a conceptual path, through a reasoned animation of raster and vectorial products. Together with the necessary technical and IT skills, it is essential to reaffirm the role of representation, which is central to image processing, recognition of graphic analogies, study of proportions, knowledge of the laws of visual percep…
