Quantification and automatized adaptive detection of in vivo and in vitro neuronal bursts based on signal complexity.
2015
In this paper, we propose employing entropy values to quantify action potential bursts in electrophysiological measurements from the brain and neuronal cultures. Conventionally in the electrophysiological signal analysis, bursts are quantified by means of conventional measures such as their durations, and number of spikes in bursts. Here our main aim is to device metrics for burst quantification to provide for enhanced burst characterization. Entropy is a widely employed measure to quantify regularity/complexity of time series. Specifically, we investigate the applicability and differences of spectral entropy and sample entropy in the quantification of bursts in in vivo rat hippocampal meas…
Comparative Analysis of Modified Modulation Scheme for Three-phase Voltage fed QZS Inverters
2019
Single-stage converters are one promising solution in different field of applications. In particular, quasi-Z-Source VSI topology structure playsan important role because it presents the same advantages of VSI and qZS converters. In addition, it allows increasing the inverter reliability. Moreover, modulation schemes and control strategy are still being developed. For this reason, aim of this paper is to introduce a modified modulation scheme based on the Maximum Constant Boost Control (MCBC) concept and Switching Frequency Optimal (SFO)as reference signals that represents the novelty issue of this work. The analysis has been carried out by comparing the performance of the converter in term…
An improvement of NFC-SEC with signed exchanges for an e-prescription-based application
2013
International audience; In the context of an aging population, drug intake can be a potential source of errors leading to death in some cases. Almost all of these errors are unintentional and come from incorrect prescriptions, unsuitable dosages for the patient or incompatibility with other treatments. To limit these risks which are especially important in the elderly or pre-dependency, we propose a secure system for drug treatment through the NFC (Near Field Communication) contact-less communication technology. The proposed system provides security mechanisms such as integrity, authentication, encryption and non-repudiation. To ensure this security, an extension of the international standa…
Semantic models of musical mood: Comparison between crowd-sourced and curated editorial tags
2013
Social media services such as Last.fm provide crowd-sourced mood tags which are a rich but often noisy source of information. In contrast, editorial annotations from production music libraries are meant to be incisive in nature. We compare the efficiency of these two data sources in capturing semantic information on mood expressed by music. First, a semantic computing technique devised for mood-related tags in large datasets is applied to Last.fm and I Like Music (ILM) corpora separately (250,000 tracks each). The resulting semantic estimates are then correlated with listener ratings of arousal, valence and tension. High correlations (Spearman's rho) are found between the track positions in…

Numerical simulation of radiated EMI in 42V electrical automotive architectures
2006
The work is focused on the evaluation of radiated electromagnetic interference generated by dc/dc converters in 42 V systems automotive environment. The results obtained by using the method of moments and the finite difference time domain method, separately, are presented and validated in comparison with those measured in a semi-anechoic electromagnetic chamber. A measurement system set up by the authors is employed. Both the used numerical approaches are proved to be an useful tool for radiated disturbance prediction, and also for electromagnetic compatibility oriented design of the vehicle electrical architecture.
Employee Satisfaction Measurement – Part of Internal Marketing
2012
Since 1980 service companies have realized that standards and technology are essential for the successful implementing of the adopted strategy, but not enough. Without employees with the proper attitude, knowledge and skills, strategy can not generate the desired results. Great service companies highlight that employees (front-line employees) are responsible for the implementation of the service strategy, their satisfaction and loyalty having a direct and strong influence on the satisfaction and loyalty of the customers. In this context, this paper aims to highlight the importance of employees in delivering reliable services, as well as how to measure employee satisfaction levels. Regarding…

Generation and Evolution of Spin-, Valley-, and Layer-Polarized Excited Carriers in Inversion-Symmetric WSe2
2016
We report the spin-selective optical excitation of carriers in inversion-symmetric bulk samples of the transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) WSe2. Employing time- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (trARPES) and complementary time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT), we observe spin-, valley-, and layer-polarized excited state populations upon excitation with circularly polarized pump pulses, followed by ultrafast ( < 100 fs ) scattering of carriers towards the global minimum of the conduction band. TDDFT reveals the character of the conduction band, into which electrons are initially excited, to be two-dimensional and localized within individual layers, whereas at t…
EMI Analysis in Electrical Drives under Lightning Surge Conditions
2012
In this paper, a complete model of a power drive system including the earth electrodes is proposed to evaluate electromagnetic conducted interference due to lightning pulses. Circuit model of a power drive system is joined with a full-wave approach for the simulation of the time behavior of the grounding system. The proposed model enables to predict the electromagnetic conducted interference generated in the power drive system when lightning conditions involve the earth electrodes.
