En este trabajo comprobamos la participación de las principales instituciones valencianas -generalidad, ayuntamiento de Valencia, virrey y audiencia- en todo el proceso que acompañó la llegada de la dinastía borbónica. Para ello se aborda su funcionamiento durante los diferentes períodos que ésta abarca. Empezamos nuestro estudio con la muerte de Carlos II, el último Habsburgo, y la aceptación de Felipe de Anjou. A continuación desarrollamos este primer reinado de Felipe V de 1701 a 1705, aún bajo la tutela del ordenamiento foral, las relaciones de las instituciones con la monarquía, sus injerencias, las medidas que les afectan, el respeto a su estructura y funciones. Han pasado ya muchos años desde que el grupo de sociedades abandonó la nebulosa jurídica en la que le situaba su singularidad como forma de empresa, la complejidad de su regulación en otros ordenamientos (como el Derecho alemán) y, por qué no decirlo, la escasa atención que, por lo general, le dispensaban los juristas españoles, además de su tradicional irrelevancia en el Derecho positivo de nuestro país.

A COLAB model Of workplace transformation in the criminal justice context

AbstractThis chapter presents the COLAB model for promoting organisational learning and innovation with potential application in criminal justice-related organisations. We describe this model as a toolkit that built on the Change Laboratory model of workplace transformation but one augmented with the beneficial components of Activity Clinics, Boundary Crossing Workshops and Codesign methods and developed within the criminal justice context. Limitations and future directions for the model are discussed.
Use of running plates by floor housed rats: A pilot study

The outfit of husbandry facilities of, and the enrichment provided for, experimental rodents plays an important role in the animals’ welfare, and hence also for the societal acceptance of animal experiments. Whether rats and mice benefit from being provided with running wheels or plates is discussed controversially. Here we present observations from a feeding experiment, where rats were provided a running plate. As a pilot study, six identical cages, with three animals per cage, were filmed for six days, and the resulting footage was screened for the number of bouts and the time the animals spent on the plates. Some acetone-carried consolidants for waterlogged archaeological wood were tested in order to evaluate treatments able to save time and energy. In details, colophony (rosin), two esterified colophonies (Rosin 100® and Rosin 459®), a mixture of colophony with PEG 3400 and a vinyl acetate - vinyl versate copolymer (Vinavil 8020S®) were tested. The treatments were carried out at temperatures of 20 and 35 °C on waterlogged maritime pine, elm, oak and beech. Abstract Based on a survey administered in 13 prisons in England & Wales and Norway, as part of a research programme with explicitly comparative aims, this article seeks to address both the relative and absolute dimensions of the Nordic penal exceptionalism thesis. It outlines the consistently more positive results in Norway compared to England & Wales, explaining them primarily with reference to the former’s much higher quality and use of open prisons.
