La vitamina D ha un ruolo nel controllo di alcune vie dell’immunità innata e nell’ipostenia del quadricipite, fattori rilevanti nella patogenesi dell’osteoartrosi del ginocchio. Bassi livelli di 25(OH)D sono associati ad una aumentata progressione radiografica dell’OA. L’ipovitaminosi D è associata ad alterazioni cartilaginee evidenziabili mediante studi di imaging nell’artrosi del ginocchio. L’ipovitaminosi D non è associata ad altre localizzazioni osteoartrosiche .

Sialoendoscopy in the management of the salivary gland disorders

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to determine the long-term (> 6 month) outcome of patients suffering from obstructive sialadenitis treated by sialoendoscopy. METHODS: Between 2009 and 2013 seventy-six subjects underwent sialoendoscopy under local anesthesia at the University Hospital P. Giaccone of Palermo. RESULTS: The mean age of presentation was 50.5 years for male (56.6%) and 44.7 years for female (43.4%). The presenting symptoms were frequent pain in 72% of cases, frequent purulent secretions in 65% of cases, frequent swelling in 62% of cases and frequent bitter taste in 44% of cases. Asymptotic properties of incoherent waves propagating in an all-optical regenerators line

International audience; We present an original method to generate optical pulse trains with random time-interval values from incoherent broadband sources. More precisely, our technique relies on the remarkable properties of a line made of cascaded self-phase modulation-based optical regenerators. Depending on the regenerator parameters, various regimes with noticeably different physical behaviors can be reported.
Green and Integrated Wearable Electrochemical Sensor for Chloride Detection in Sweat

Wearable sensors for sweat biomarkers can provide facile analyte capability and monitoring for several diseases. In this work, a green wearable sensor for sweat absorption and chloride sensing is presented. In order to produce a sustainable device, polylactic acid (PLA) was used for both the substrate and the sweat absorption pad fabrication. The sensor material for chloride detection consisted of silver-based reference, working, and counter electrodes obtained from upcycled compact discs.
