Service quality benchmarking via a novel approach based on fuzzy ELECTRE III and IPA: an empirical case involving the Italian public healthcare conte…
2017
A novel fuzzy-based approach which combines ELECTRE III along with the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) is proposed in the present work to comparatively evaluate the service quality in the public healthcare context. Specifically, ELECTRE III is firstly considered to compare the service performance of examined hospitals in a noncompensatory manner. Afterwards, IPA is employed to support the service quality management to point out improvement needs and their priorities. The proposed approach also incorporates features of the Fuzzy Set Theory so as to address the possible uncertainty, subjectivity and vagueness of involved experts in evaluating the service quality. The model is applied to…
Direktīvas 2004/35/EK ieviešanas problēmas Latvijā: fizisko personu un operatora atbildības praktiskie aspekti un būtiskuma slieksnis
2019
Evolution of Photo-induced defects in Ge-doped fiber/preform: influence of the drawing
2011
International audience; We have studied the generation mechanisms of two different radiation-induced point defects, the Ge(1) and Ge(2) centers, in a germanosilicate fiber and in its original preform. The samples have been investigated before and after X-ray irradiation using the confocal microscopy luminescence and the electron paramagnetic resonance techniques. Our experimental results show the higher radiation sensitivity of the fiber as compared to the perform and suggest a relation between Ge(1) and Ge(2) generation. To explain our data we have used different models, finding that the destruction probability of the Ge(1) and Ge(2) defects is larger in fiber than in preform, whereas the …
Wave Propagation in a 3-D Optical Waveguide
2003
In this paper we study the problem of wave propagation in a 3-D optical fiber. The goal is to obtain a solution for the time-harmonic field caused by a source in a cylindrically symmetric waveguide. The geometry of the problem, corresponding to an open waveguide, makes the problem challenging. To solve it, we construct a transform theory which is a nontrivial generalization of a method for solving a 2-D version of this problem given by Magnanini and Santosa.\cite{MS} The extension to 3-D is made complicated by the fact that the resulting eigenvalue problem defining the transform kernel is singular both at the origin and at infinity. The singularities require the investigation of the behavio…
Guaranteed lower bounds for cost functionals of time-periodic parabolic optimization problems
2019
In this paper, a new technique is shown for deriving computable, guaranteed lower bounds of functional type (minorants) for two different cost functionals subject to a parabolic time-periodic boundary value problem. Together with previous results on upper bounds (majorants) for one of the cost functionals, both minorants and majorants lead to two-sided estimates of functional type for the optimal control problem. Both upper and lower bounds are derived for the second new cost functional subject to the same parabolic PDE-constraints, but where the target is a desired gradient. The time-periodic optimal control problems are discretized by the multiharmonic finite element method leading to lar…
An user friendly Real Options based Model to Optimize Pharmaceutical R&D Portfolio
2013
Pharmaceutical industry pays great attention to its R&D process because it is a long, dynamic, very expensive, and uncertain process. On the other hand this process can be modelled as a step-wise process and each stage allows to achieve better information and generally lower uncertainty. In order to build up the best portfolio a tool able to capture the intrinsic flexible nature of the process should be selected: real options analysis has this characteristic but as widely demonstrated in literature, is narrowed to very limited cases because its perceived complexity. Basing on OptFolio, a model available in literature, this paper proposes an user friendly programming model based on Real Opti…

Economic and Financial Comparison between Organic and Conventional Farming in Sicilian Lemon Orchards
2015
Sicily has a long tradition in citrus fruit cultivations that with vineyard and olive tree represent the main Mediterranean tree crops. In this paper we have evaluated the economic and financial sustainability of lemon production, both in organic farming and in conventional farming
Determinants of interest margins in Spanish credit institutions before and after the 2008 financial crash
2017
As interest margins of credit institutions affect economic performance of countries, finding out which are the main determinants of their evolution is a research task of great interest at current times. This is the purpose of the present paper as regards to the Spanish case over the period 2004-2012. Based on the econometric contributions by Ho and Saunders (1981) and some of its extensions, the authors develop a model that includes as explanatory variables the factors usually examined in the literature and other singular variables that might be relevant. Particularly, the rate of leverage, the quality of their assets measured according to their risk, and the profit obtained from the sellin…
