Local maximal operators on fractional Sobolev spaces

2016

In this note we establish the boundedness properties of local maximal operators MG on the fractional Sobolev spaces Ws;p(G) whenever G is an open set in Rn, 0 < s < 1 and 1 < p < 1. As an application, we characterize the fractional (s;p)-Hardy inequality on a bounded open set by a Maz'ya-type testing condition localized to Whitney cubes. pq(G) whenever G is an open set in R n , 0 < s < 1 and 1 < p;q <1. Our main focus lies in the mapping properties of MG on a fractional Sobolev space W s;p (G) with 0 < s < 1 and 1 < p < 1, see Section 2 for the denition or (3) for a survey of this space. The intrinsically dened function space W s;p (G) on a given domain G coincides with the trace space F s …

Risk exposure to vibration and noise in the use of agricultural track-laying tractors.

2016

Human exposure to mechanical vibration may represent a significant risk factor for exposed workers in the agricultural sector. Also, noise in agriculture is one of the risk factors to be taken into account in the evaluation of workers’ health and safety. One of the major sources of discomfort for the workers operating a tractors is the noise to which they are exposed during work. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of exposure to whole-body vibration for the operator driving track-laying tractors in vineyard orchard and the noise level. The experimental tests were performed with six different track-laying tractors coupled with the same rototilling machine. The results showed that…

French firms’ strategies for protecting their intellectual property

2012

In attempting to protect their innovations, firms can choose from a range of mechanisms, which may be either non-statutory (trade secrets, design complexity, and lead-time advantage over competitors) or statutory (patent, design registration, trademark, copyright). Yet, little is known about how firms do actually make their choices from among these different appropriability mechanisms. The aim of this paper is to determine how French firms’ use of intellectual property protection mechanisms relates to the type of innovation, the characteristics of the market sector in which they operate, the firms’ characteristics, and their human resources strategies. Our empirical model draws on four Fren…

The transformation of classical paradigms in a debated Christian tragedy

2018

Abstract: Despite having been published in a translation…

Governance forms drivers in bio-pharmaceutial inter-firm relationships

2012

Networking benefits are acknowledged by many studies in the industrial organization and strategic management fields; transaction cost theory agency and property right theory provide the economic foundations to the market-hierarchy dilemma; while Resource based-view (RBV), relational and evolutionary theories provide the strategic foundation of the inter-firm relationships. All this theoretical strands investigate reasons that push firms to formalize their relationship in different governance structures. The bio-pharmaceutical industry has the characteristics to offer to the potential partners both exploitation or exploration alliances benefits. In particular some elements play a “pivot” rol…

Drivers influencing the governance of inter-firm relationships in the biopharmaceutical industry: an empirical survey in the Italian context

2013

This paper focuses on factors influencing the choice of the governance form in inter-firm relationships (IFRs) between pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. By reviewing the relevant literature on transaction cost economics, property right theory, real option and resources-based view, we located some drivers that might influence such relationships and we formulated a set of hypotheses linking them to governance forms. Such a theoretical framework has been empirically tested through a survey conducted among the Italian companies associated to Farmindustria. Empirical results provide some interesting insights on how shaping bio-pharmaceutical deals; we found that the developmental stage…

How the purpose of the inter-firm relationships influences the choice of the governance form: evidence from the machine tool and the pharmaceutical i…

2013

In today's competitive landscape, the choice of the appropriate mode to govern an inter-firm relationship is a critical factor for companies. In the literature several theoretical strands have examined the impact of the purpose of inter-firm relationships on the forms of governance. Building on a robust literature review on the topic, this study focuses on a specific issue influencing the choice of the form of governance in inter-firm relationships, i.e. the purpose of inter-firm relationships with relation to partner's resources. We gather in a unique framework three typologies of partner's resources, i.e. production, R&D and marketing, and through two empirical analyses in two different I…

Cadmium effects on p38/MAPK isoforms in MDA-MB231 breast cancer cells

2009

Emerging evidence seems to indicate that the heavy metal cadmium (Cd) is able to regulate gene expression, drastically affecting the pattern of transcriptional activity in normal and pathological eukaryotic cells, also affecting intracellular signalization events. Human p38 is a family of mitogen-activated protein kinases consisting of four isoforms (alpha, beta, gamma and delta) which mediate signal transduction cascades controlling several aspects of cell physiology. In this study we examined whether exposure of MDA-MB231 tumor cells from the human breast to Cd may exert some effect on p38 isoform expression and accumulation, as well as on p38 activation. Employing a combination of prolif…

Robust existence of nonhyperbolic ergodic measures with positive entropy and full support

2021

We prove that for some manifolds $M$ the set of robustly transitive partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of $M$ with one-dimensional nonhyperbolic centre direction contains a $C^1$-open and dense subset of diffeomorphisms with nonhyperbolic measures which are ergodic, fully supported and have positive entropy. To do so, we formulate abstract conditions sufficient for the construction of an ergodic, fully supported measure $\mu$ which has positive entropy and is such that for a continuous function $\phi\colon X\to\mathbb{R}$ the integral $\int\phi\,d\mu$ vanishes. The criterion is an extended version of the control at any scale with a long and sparse tail technique coming from the previous w…
