Supersymmetric structures for second order differential operators
2012
Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for a real semiclassical partial differential operator of order two to possess a supersymmetric structure. For the operator coming from a chain of oscillators, coupled to two heat baths, we show the non-existence of a smooth supersymmetric structure, for a suitable interaction potential, provided that the temperatures of the baths are different.
Existence of dynamical low-rank approximations to parabolic problems
2021
The existence and uniqueness of weak solutions to dynamical low-rank evolution problems for parabolic partial differential equations in two spatial dimensions is shown, covering also non-diagonal diffusion in the elliptic part. The proof is based on a variational time-stepping scheme on the low-rank manifold. Moreover, this scheme is shown to be closely related to practical methods for computing such low-rank evolutions.
About Quotient Orders and Ordering Sequences
2017
Summary In preparation for the formalization in Mizar [4] of lotteries as given in [14], this article closes some gaps in the Mizar Mathematical Library (MML) regarding relational structures. The quotient order is introduced by the equivalence relation identifying two elements x, y of a preorder as equivalent if x ⩽ y and y ⩽ x. This concept is known (see e.g. chapter 5 of [19]) and was first introduced into the MML in [13] and that work is incorporated here. Furthermore given a set A, partition D of A and a finite-support function f : A → ℝ, a function Σ f : D → ℝ, Σ f (X)= ∑ x∈X f(x) can be defined as some kind of natural “restriction” from f to D. The first main result of this article ca…

The future outlook on allergen immunotherapy in children: 2018 and beyond
2018
Abstract Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is the only currently available immune-modifying and aetiological treatment for patients suffering from IgE-mediated diseases. In childhood, it represents a suitable therapeutic option to intervene during the early phases of respiratory allergic diseases such as rhino-conjunctivitis and asthma, which is when their progression may be more easily influenced. A growing body of evidence shows that oral immunotherapy represents a promising treatment option in children with persistent IgE- mediated food allergy. The efficacy of AIT is under investigation also in patients with extrinsic atopic dermatitis, currently with controversial results. Furthermore, AIT …
Studi greci e latini nell?antica Università di Altamura (1748-1821)
2019
The article tries to highlight, despite the scarse of available documentation, the Greek and Latin studies (language and texts) in the ancient Apulian University in Altamura (1748-1821). Furthermore, on the basis of unpublished archival materials (school registers and student workbooks) it is possible to shed light on the ancient authors explained at school, the teaching methods, and the study practices.
Inuentiones y translationes de S. Mercurio
2019
Inuentiones and translationes of the relics are part of the hagiographic dossier of a saint and provide interesting information about his cult over the centuries. For S. Mercurius of Caesarea the original texts in Greek have been lost, but we have two collections miracles in Coptic that narrate the inuentio and translatio of his relics and there is also a medieval tradition about his translatio to Benevento (Italy). From all these texts is deduced a healing cult of S. Mercurius based on the usual topics.
Analysis of basic drugs by liquid chromatography with environmentally friendly mobile phases in pharmaceutical formulations
2017
Abstract Basic drugs are positively charged in the usual working pH (2–8) in reversed-phase liquid chromatography. This gives rise to a strong association with the residual ionized silanols in conventional silica-based stationary phases, which is translated in poor peak shape and high consumption of organic solvent to get appropriate retention times. Micellar mobile phases containing surfactants give rise to modified stationary phases, where silanols are masked, improving the peak shape. However, mobile phases containing the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) require a small amount of organic solvent to conveniently decrease the retention of cationic analytes. An alternative is…
Anthracene Fluorescence Quenching by a Tetrakis (Ketocarboxamide) Cavitand
2014
Quenching of both fluorescence lifetime and fluorescence intensity of anthracene was investigated in the presence of a newly derived tetrakis (ketocarboxamide) cavitand at various concentrations. Time-correlated single photon counting method was applied for the lifetime measurements. A clear correlation between the fluorescence lifetime of anthracene as a function of cavitand concentration in dimethylformamide solution was observed. The bimolecular collisional quenching constant was derived from the decrease of lifetime. Fluorescence intensity was measured in the emission wavelength region around 400 nm as a result of excitation at 280 nm. Effective quenching was observed in the presence of…
