The two cultures: Scientists and journalists, not an outdated relationship.
2013
The relationship between scientists and journalists is much better than its image. Scientists not only believe that public communication is a duty, but also that media visibility is beneficial for them. The scientific culture differs from that of journalism, which causes partly discrepant expectations; but in most cases these do not preclude satisfying interactions between journalists and scientists. The traditional relationship between science and journalism is challenged by the rise of new online media. These provide opportunities for scientists and scientific organizations to communicate directly with the public via websites, blogs and social networks. Science journalism seems to be in a…
How do university students’ web search behavior, website characteristics, and the interaction of both influence students’ critical online reasoning?
2020
The Internet has become one of the main sources of information for university students’ learning. Since anyone can disseminate content online, however, the Internet is full of irrelevant, biased, or even false information. Thus, students’ ability to use online information in a critical-reflective manner is of crucial importance. In our study, we used a framework for the assessment of students’ critical online reasoning (COR) to measure university students’ ability to critically use information from online sources and to reason on contentious issues based on online information. In addition to analyzing students’ COR by evaluating their open-ended short answers, we also investigated the stude…

The castle's Hermitage of Yecla (Region of Murcia) constituted during the 13th to 16th centuries the first parish of the population, hosting a triptych-shaped altarpiece presided over by a tempera painting on wood of Our Lady of Humility or "Virgo Lactans", dated around 1370 and attributed to the painter Barnaba da Modena, which was the titular image of the mentioned temple under the title of Our Lady of the Incarnation, until at the end of the 18th century it changed ownership for the Conception of Our Lady. Changes in students’ understanding of and visual attention on digitally represented graphs across two domains in higher education : a postreplication…
2020
Domain-specific understanding of digitally represented graphs is necessary for successful learning within and across domains in higher education. Two recent studies conducted a cross-sectional analysis of graph understanding in different contexts (physics and finance), task concepts, and question types among students of physics, psychology, and economics. However, neither changes in graph processing nor changes in test scores over the course of one semester have been sufficiently researched so far. This eye-tracking replication study with a pretest–posttest design examines and contrasts changes in physics and economics students’ understanding of linear physics and finance graphs. It analyze…

Master thesis development management - University of Agder 2016 The civil war in Sri Lanka came to an end in 2009, costing more than 40,000 civilian lives and resulting in major destruction of private and public property. At the end of the civil war the government of Sri Lanka promised peace through passing of amendments to the constitution, initiating reforms to institutions and ensuring human rights and freedom for civilians. The government’s promise of peace has become subject to the criticism of ethnic politics. While assuring peace through constitutional and institutional reforms and human rights and freedom for civilians, the government has promoted victors’ peace by celebrating the m…

Masteroppgave Global development and planning UT506 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 In the post-conflict situation that defines Colombia,SPK works to raise women’s awareness (or works to make women conscious) of their own potential tocontribute to local politics. This paper examinesthe meanings of peacework in all it’s shapes and forms, but also how this work is connected to a victim identity. Inspired by Dorothy Smith and institutional ethnography Iexamine what can control the work in the organization, with a particular eye on the role of financial supporters. Words as «empowerment» and «peace builder» are used both in SPK, but also in the general discourse around women and peace. The gender a…

2014
Master thesis in development management - University of Agder 2014 Microfinance has been recognized internationally as a great strategy in promoting women’s empowerment. Currently development practitioners, international donors, policy makers, Governments, and Non-governmental organizations have introduced microfinance programs to reach out with financial services to the low-income earners, especially women. This is based on the conception that women have better repayment records and also if credit is placed in women’s hands, it leads to improvement in the wellbeing of entire household. This study therefore aimed at assessing the extent to which access to loans by women can lead to a change…
Epistemic network analyses of economics students' graph understanding. An eye-tracking study

Learning to solve graph tasks is one of the key prerequisites of acquiring domain-specific knowledge in most study domains. Analyses of graph understanding often use eye-tracking and focus on analyzing how much time students spend gazing at particular areas of a graph&mdash
