Media use during adolescence: the recommendations of the Italian Pediatric Society
2019
Abstract Background The use of media device, such as smartphone and tablet, is currently increasing, especially among the youngest. Adolescents spend more and more time with their smartphones consulting social media, mainly Facebook, Instagram and Twitter because. Adolescents often feel the necessity to use a media device as a means to construct a social identity and express themselves. For some children, smartphone ownership starts even sooner as young as 7 yrs, according to internet safety experts. Material and methods We analyzed the evidence on media use and its consequences in adolescence. Results In literature, smartphones and tablets use may negatively influences the psychophysical d…
Post-Transcriptional Regulation of Human Inducible Nitric-Oxide Synthase Expression by the Jun N-terminal Kinase
2007
Human inducible nitric-oxide synthase (iNOS) expression is regulated both at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. In the present study, the effect of Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) on human iNOS expression was investigated. In A549/8 human alveolar epithelial cells, both the inhibition of JNK by a pharmacological inhibitor anthra[1,9-cd]pyrazol-6(2H)-one1,9-pyrazoloanthrone (SP600125) and small interfering RNA (siRNA)-mediated down-regulation of JNK led to a reduction of iNOS mRNA and protein expression. iNOS promoter activity was not affected by these treatments. Hence, JNK seems to regulate iNOS expression through post-transcriptional mechanisms by stabilizing iNOS mRNA. Our labo…
La prestación de maternidad en los supuestos de gestación subrogada
2018
Surrogate pregnancy, as a technique of assisted reproduction prohibited by Spanish law, raises a number of legal questions than, in certain cases, trascend of the Civil Law. Specifically, it has been discussed about de possibility that de person or persons consigner in the gestation contract substitution have access to the provision for maternity benefit. Recently, the Spanish Supreme Court has responded to this issue in the sense of recognizing the right to the provision for maternity benefit to the father or mother ?in fact?, efecttively, develop own parental powers.
Cuerpos moldeables y vidas modulables: La invención del estado holísticamente saludable como bienestar (integral)
2020
The article argues ?from the Deleuzian concepts of society of control, moulding and modulation and the Rosean theory on the economization and medicalization of life? that the expansion of the concept of health in terms of integral and subjective well-being is the effect of a socio-historical shift in the way we relate to this signifier, and therefore to our bodies and ourselves. We use this interpretative network to analyze the effects that the biopsychosocial health paradigm has had in the context of aesthetic surgery and fitness practice. As a result, we see that the expansion of the concept of health has extended the domain of medicine into the spheres of personal care and physical appea…
Monitoring Program of Small-Scale Solar Heating and Cooling within IEA-SHC Task 38 – Procedure and First Results
2010
Within IEA-SHC Task 38 (Solar Air Conditioning and Refrigeration), a monitoring procedure for solar heating and cooling systems was developed. This methodology includes measurements of all relevant energy flows (heat, cold, electricity) to be able to derive key figures such as primary energy ratio, electrical coefficient of performance, solar heat management efficiency, fractional savings for heating and cooling compared to a conventional (non solar) heating and cooling system. A number of small-scale systems for solar heating and cooling are currently being monitored across Europe. For a handful of systems monitoring data of at least a full year of operation is already available. These sys…
