Determination of mercury at picogram level in natural waters with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry by using 3D printed metal scavengers

The determination of ultra-trace concentrations of Hg in natural water samples via preconcentration using 3D printed metal scavenger technique followed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was developed. The determination of Hg in certified reference material ERM-CA615 (groundwater) was performed with high accuracy and precision resulting in recovery of 100 ± 3% and RSD <2.5%, respectively. 3D printed diffractive terahertz lenses

[EN] A 3D printer was used to realize custom-made diffractive THz lenses. After testing several materials, phase binary lenses with periodic and aperiodic radial profiles were designed and constructed in polyamide material to work at 0.625 THz. The nonconventional focusing properties of such lenses were assessed by computing and measuring their axial point spread function (PSF). Our results demonstrate that inexpensive 3D printed THz diffractive lenses can be reliably used in focusing and imaging THz systems. Diffractive THz lenses with unprecedented features, such as extended depth of focus or bifocalization, have been demonstrated.

Improving High Frequency Transformers behavior for DC-DC Converter Used in Electric Vehicles

The paper presents a design procedure for high frequency transformer windings adopted in the DC-DC converter used in electric vehicles. The output of the design procedure is the integration of a 3D printed plastic case in the transformer windings, with the aim to maximize the output power. The proposal design procedure is entirely based on a finite element analysis approach and on a differential evolution algorithm used for the solution of the optimization problem.

ABSTRACTThe treatment of sequelae of scaphoid fractures is still one of the unsolved problems of hand surgery. Between January 2019 and July 2020 in the Hand Surgery Department of San Paolo’s Hospital in Savona (Italy) 9 partial scaphoid in titanium custom-made 3D-printed prosthesis have performed in 9 patients (all men) with an average age of 27.5 years (minimum 18-maximum 37 years). The aim of the study is to evaluate over time the clinical-functional and radiographic results of the wrists treated with partial and total scaphoid titanium custom-made 3D-printed prostheses and reconstruction of SLIL.

Ascending aortic aneurysms (AsAA) and aortic dissections are life-threatening cardiovascular diseases. The main criteria for determining surgical intervention of AsAA are the maximum diameter or the increasing annual rate of the aneurysm.
