First copper(I) ferrocenyltetraphosphine complexes: possible involvement in Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction ?

2008

Preparation and characterization of the first examples of copper(I) ferrocenylpolyphosphine complexes are reported. The molecular structure of complex {P,P′,P′′-[1,1′,2,2′-tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)-4,4′-di-tert-butylferrocene]iodocopper(I)} (1) was solved by X-ray diffraction studies, and its fluxional behavior in solution was investigated by VT-31P NMR; both revealed a net triligated coordination preference of the ferrocenyl tetraphosphine Fc(P)4tBu with copper. The tetradentate ligand is an active auxiliary in Sonogashira alkynylation; therefore the general question of copper as a competitive coordination partner in the Pd/Cu-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction was raised and discussed. Elec…

Tuning the Electronic Properties of Nonplanar exTTF-Based Push–Pull Chromophores by Aryl Substitution

2012

International audience; A new family ofπ-extended tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) donor−acceptorchromophores has been synthesized by [2 + 2] cycloaddition of TCNE with exTTF-substituted alkynes and subsequent cycloreversion. X-ray data and theoretical calculations, performed at the B3LYP/6-31G**level, show that the new chromophores exhibit highlydistorted nonplanar molecular structures with largely twisted 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobuta-1,3-diene (TCBD) units. The electronic and optical properties, investigated by UV/visspectroscopy and electrochemical measurements, are significantly modified when theTCBD acceptor unit is substituted with a donor phenyl group, which increases the twistingof the TCBD unit…

Cooperative N–H bond activation by amido-Ge(ii) cations

2020

N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and tertiary phosphine-stabilized germylium-ylidene cations, [R(L)Ge:]+, featuring tethered amido substituents at R have been synthesized via halide abstraction. Characterization in the solid state by X-ray crystallography shows these systems to be monomeric, featuring a two-coordinate C,N- or P,N-ligated germanium atom. The presence of the strongly Lewis acidic cationic germanium centre and proximal amide function allows for facile cleavage of N-H bonds in 1,2-fashion: the products resulting from reactions with carbazole feature a tethered secondary amine donor bound to a three-coordinate carbazolyl-GeII centre. In each case, addition of the components of the N…

Dual role of silver in a fluorogenic N-squaraine probe based on Ag(i)–π interactions

2021

In the presence of Ag(I), the monoanion of cyano-N-squaraine (I) generates an intense fluorescence turn-on response. Experimental evidence and DFT calculations reveal a sequence of deprotonation-coordination events in which the Ag(I) ions play a dual role as a Lewis acid and coordinating metal. The observed effect is highly selective for Ag(I) compared to other metals.

Computational study of the spin-forbidden H 2 oxidative addition to 16-electron Fe(0) complexes

2003

International audience; The spin-forbidden oxidative addition of H2 to Fe(CO)4, Fe(PH3)4, Fe(dpe)2 and Fe(dmpe)2 [dpe = H2PCH2CH2PH2, dmpe = (CH3)2PCH2CH2P(CH3)2] has been investigated by density functional theory using a modified B3PW91 functional. All 16-electron fragments are found to adopt a spin triplet ground state. The H2 addition involves a spin crossover in the reagents region of configurational space, at a significantly higher energy relative to the triplet dissociation asymptote and, for the case of Fe(CO)4·H2, even higher than the singlet dissociation asymptote. After crossing to the singlet surface, the addition proceeds directly to the classical cis-dihydride product. Only for…

A novel MALDI-MS approach for the analysis of neutral metallosupramolecular architectures

2011

Matrix assisted laser desorption/ionisation mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) methods have been developed for the characterisation of neutral [2×2] metallogrids derived fromdiimine, dihydrazone and diacylhydrazone ligands. Such grids may be protonated in solution to give cationic species but in most cases these are labile, so that rather delicate conditions are required for observation of the intact metallogrids as monoprotonated derivatives in the gas phase. As a MALDI matrix, 2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone (THAP) is sufficiently acidic to enable monoprotonation of the grids unaccompanied by dissociation, and if the grid sample is initially deposited by a layering technique to avoid any prelimina…

An aryl-fused redox-active tetrathiafulvalene with enhanced mixed-valence and radical-cation dimer stabilities.

2018

Molecular recognition of stable organic radicals is a relatively novel, but important structural binding motif in supramolecular chemistry. Here, we report on a redox-switchable veratrole-fused tetrathiafulvalene derivative VTTF which is ideally suited for this purpose and for the incorporation into stimuli-responsive systems. As revealed by electrochemistry, UV/Vis measurements, X-ray analysis, and electrocrystallisation, VTTF can be reversibly oxidised to the corresponding radical-cation or dication which shows optoelectronic and structural propterties similar to tetrathiafulvalene and tetrakis(methylthio)tetrathiafulvalene. However, theoretical calculations, variable temperature EPR, and…

Palladium-catalyzed amination of aryl dibromides with secondary amines: synthetic and mechanistic aspects

1999

Abstract Diaminobenzenes are obtained starting from m- and p-dibromobenzenes and secondary amines in the presence of Pd(dba)2/P(o-tolyl)3and sodium tert-butoxide in moderate to good yields. Reductive dehalogenation of aryl dibromides is a major side reaction under these conditions. The study of this reaction has shown that the formation of reductive dehalogenation products occurs according to two independent ways. The first one proceeds via the well-known β-hydride elimination from amido-coordinated palladium complexes. The second one involves the formation of hydrido palladium complexes from amino-coordinated derivatives. Although our results do not allow us to propose a detailed mechanist…
