Orientation theory in arithmetic geometry

2016

This work is devoted to study orientation theory in arithmetic geometric within the motivic homotopy theory of Morel and Voevodsky. The main tool is a formulation of the absolute purity property for an \emph{arithmetic cohomology theory}, either represented by a cartesian section of the stable homotopy category or satisfying suitable axioms. We give many examples, formulate conjectures and prove a useful property of analytical invariance. Within this axiomatic, we thoroughly develop the theory of characteristic and fundamental classes, Gysin and residue morphisms. This is used to prove Riemann-Roch formulas, in Grothendieck style for arbitrary natural transformations of cohomologies, and a …

p-Laplacian type equations involving measures

2003

This is a survey on problems involving equations $-\operatorname{div}{\Cal A}(x,\nabla u)=\mu$, where $\mu$ is a Radon measure and ${\Cal A}:\bold {R}^n\times\bold R^n\to \bold R^n$ verifies Leray-Lions type conditions. We shall discuss a potential theoretic approach when the measure is nonnegative. Existence and uniqueness, and different concepts of solutions are discussed for general signed measures.

Some sufficient conditions for lower semicontinuity in SBD and applications to minimum problems of Fracture Mechanics

2009

We provide some lower semicontinuity results in the space of special functions of bounded deformation for energies of the type $$ %\int_\O {1/2}({\mathbb C} \E u, \E u)dx + \int_{J_{u}} \Theta(u^+, u^-, \nu_{u})d \H^{N-1} \enspace, \enspace [u]\cdot \nu_u \geq 0 \enspace {\cal H}^{N-1}-\hbox{a. e. on}J_u, $$ and give some examples and applications to minimum problems. \noindent Keywords: Lower semicontinuity, fracture, special functions of bounded deformation, joint convexity, $BV$-ellipticity.

Volume growth, capacity estimates, p-parabolicity and sharp integrability properties of p-harmonic Green functions

2023

In a complete metric space equipped with a doubling measure supporting a $p$-Poincar\'e inequality, we prove sharp growth and integrability results for $p$-harmonic Green functions and their minimal $p$-weak upper gradients. We show that these properties are determined by the growth of the underlying measure near the singularity. Corresponding results are obtained also for more general $p$-harmonic functions with poles, as well as for singular solutions of elliptic differential equations in divergence form on weighted $\mathbf{R}^n$ and on manifolds. The proofs are based on a new general capacity estimate for annuli, which implies precise pointwise estimates for $p$-harmonic Green functions…

A Koebe distortion theorem for quasiconformal mappings in the Heisenberg group

2017

We prove a Koebe distortion theorem for the average derivative of a quasiconformal mapping between domains in the sub-Riemannian Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}_1$. Several auxiliary properties of quasiconformal mappings between subdomains of $\mathbb{H}_1$ are proven, including distortion of balls estimates and local BMO-estimates for the logarithm of the Jacobian of a quasiconformal mapping. Applications of the Koebe theorem include diameter bounds for images of curves, comparison of integrals of the average derivative and the operator norm of the horizontal differential, as well as the study of quasiconformal densities and metrics in domains in $\mathbb{H}_1$. The theorems are discussed for…

Diffeomorphism classes of Calabi-Yau varieties

2016

In this article we investigate diffeomorphism classes of Calabi-Yau threefolds. In particular, we focus on those embedded in toric Fano manifolds. Along the way, we give various examples and conclude with a curious remark regarding mirror symmetry.

On Radon Transforms on Tori

2014

We show injectivity of the X-ray transform and the $d$-plane Radon transform for distributions on the $n$-torus, lowering the regularity assumption in the recent work by Abouelaz and Rouvi\`ere. We also show solenoidal injectivity of the X-ray transform on the $n$-torus for tensor fields of any order, allowing the tensors to have distribution valued coefficients. These imply new injectivity results for the periodic broken ray transform on cubes of any dimension.

Conformal equivalence of visual metrics in pseudoconvex domains

2017

We refine estimates introduced by Balogh and Bonk, to show that the boundary extensions of isometries between smooth strongly pseudoconvex domains in $\C^n$ are conformal with respect to the sub-Riemannian metric induced by the Levi form. As a corollary we obtain an alternative proof of a result of Fefferman on smooth extensions of biholomorphic mappings between pseudoconvex domains. The proofs are inspired by Mostow's proof of his rigidity theorem and are based on the asymptotic hyperbolic character of the Kobayashi or Bergman metrics and on the Bonk-Schramm hyperbolic fillings.

General conservation law for a class of physics field theories

2019

In this paper we form a general conservation law that unifies a class of physics field theories. For this we first introduce the notion of a general field as a formal sum differential forms on a Minkowski manifold. Thereafter, we employ the action principle to define the conservation law for such general fields. By construction, particular field notions of physics, such as electric field strength, stress, strain etc. become instances of the general field. Hence, the differential equations that constitute physics field theories become also instances of the general conservation law. Accordingly, the general field and the general conservation law together correspond to a large class of physics…

Tensor tomography in periodic slabs

2017

The X-ray transform on the periodic slab $[0,1]\times\mathbb T^n$, $n\geq0$, has a non-trivial kernel due to the symmetry of the manifold and presence of trapped geodesics. For tensor fields gauge freedom increases the kernel further, and the X-ray transform is not solenoidally injective unless $n=0$. We characterize the kernel of the geodesic X-ray transform for $L^2$-regular $m$-tensors for any $m\geq0$. The characterization extends to more general manifolds, twisted slabs, including the M\"obius strip as the simplest example.
