Equivalent Non-Linearization of Hysteretic Systems by Means of RPS

BackgroundThe analysis of elastoplastic systems with hardening (Bouc-Wen systems) under stochastic (seismic) loads needs the evaluation of higher order statistics even in the simplest case of normal distributed input. ObjectiveIn this paper, a non-linearization technique is proposed in order to evaluate the moments of any order of the response. MethodThis technique is developed by means of a nonlinear class of systems whose statistics are a priori known. The parameters of such systems can be chosen in such a way that the two systems are equivalent in a wide sense. Result & ConclusionIn the paper, the strategy to obtain the equivalence and the reliability of the results are discussed.
Effect of polybrominated biphenyls on bromobenzene lethality in mice.

Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) are inducers of hepatic microsomal cytochrome P450 and P1 450 in rats and mice. The purpose of this study was to determine, in mice, the effect of PBBs on the lethality of the hepatotoxin bromobenzene. Female NMRI mice were administered a single ip injection of 150 mg/kg PBBs and other mice received phenobarbital (PB), 100 mg/kg daily for 3 days, or 3‐methylcholanthrene (MC), 20 mg/kg daily for 3 days. At 24 hr after PB or MC and 24, 48, and 96 hr after PBBs animals received 3,150 mg/kg bromobenzene ip (LD85) and the time to death was recorded. The contribution presents a new acquisition for the catalog of Fernando Yáñez, a Holy Family dating back to 1523, shedding new light on the artist?s production in the third decade of the sixteenth century during his return to Almedina, his birthplace, in a time frame that divides the works for Valencia, like the retablo mayor for the city?s cathedral, from his altarpieces for Cuenca.
Polluting loads detection in power systems: a decision-making strategy based on nonactive power measurements

In this paper a novel decision-making strategy is proposed for the detection of polluting loads in three-phase power systems. It makes use of simple indices, which are expressed as a function of some nonactive power quantities, previously proposed by the authors and derived from the approach of the IEEE Std. 1459–2000. The decision-making rules for the proposed strategy are presented and discussed, by means of some simulation tests.

This paper describes a time domain technique for the detection of fundamental and harmonic components of voltages and currents, which is able to evaluate all the quantities required by IEEE standard 1459-2000. The technique does not require any spectral analysis to separate the fundamental positive-sequence components from harmonic, negative-sequence and zero-sequence ones. This paper presents a single-point method for the identification of prevailing disturbing loads in power systems for both single-phase and three-phase applications downstream or upstream from the metering section. It is based on the simultaneous measurement of three nonactive power quantities, which are based on the IEEE Std. 1459-2000 approach. The proposed method is only based on the separation of the fundamental components from the harmonic content of voltage and current; thus, it does not require any spectral analysis of the voltages and current. Comparison of two different approaches for harmonic distortion sources assessment

The paper focuses the attention on the comparison of two approaches for power quality assessment in the electric grid. Both approaches are suitable for investigating the harmonic pollution source and discovering if the harmonic source comes from the customer or the utility grid. The two approaches have the same purpose but they are deeply different. The first approach is based on the knowledge of the customer and utility equivalent impedance while the second is based on single point measurement at point of common coupling PCC. In this paper, the advantages and drawbacks of the two approaches are investigated also supported by a case study.
Predicting accelerometer-based physical activity in physical education and total physical activity: The Self-determination Theory approach

The present study tested the motivational model of physical education (PE) including needs for competence, autonomy, social relatedness, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, in-class moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and total MVPA. Participants were 490 (264 girls, 226 boys) Finnish elementary school students. The data were collected using accelerometers and questionnaires for a seven-day period during the fall semester 2017.
