La religión del cuerpo-mercancía: ¿un nuevo opio del pueblo?
2018
The commercial exploitation or more precisely the total capitalist management of the human body erects this as a universal divinity. The direct consequence of this generalized corporal capitalism is the massive depoliticization of the body and, often, the reflection that is dedicated to it. In this article, we seek to reflect on the current practices of bodily modifications within the framework of the changes in the regimes of neoliberal governance in recent decades. This reflection is guided by the revision of central texts of critical theory
Searches for lepton number violating $K^+$ decays
2019
The NA62 experiment at CERN reports a search for the lepton number violating decays K+ -> pi(-)e(+)e(+) and K+ -> pi(-)mu(+)mu(+) using a data sample collected in 2017. No signals are observed, and upper limits on the branching fractions of these decays of 2.2 x 10(-10) and 4.2 x 10(-11) are obtained, respectively, at 90% confidence level. These upper limits improve on previously reported measurements by factors of 3 and 2, respectively.
The C-X-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 1 Sustains Breast Cancer Stem Cell Self-Renewal and Promotes Tumor Progression and Immune Escape Programs
2021
Breast cancer (BC) mortality is mainly due to metastatic disease, which is primarily driven by cancer stem cells (CSC). The chemokine C-X-C motif ligand-1 (CXCL1) is involved in BC metastasis, but the question of whether it regulates breast cancer stem cell (BCSC) behavior is yet to be explored. Here, we demonstrate that BCSCs express CXCR2 and produce CXCL1, which stimulates their proliferation and self-renewal, and that CXCL1 blockade inhibits both BCSC proliferation and mammosphere formation efficiency. CXCL1 amplifies its own production and remarkably induces both tumor-promoting and immunosuppressive factors, includingSPP1/OPN,ACKR3/CXCR7,TLR4,TNFSF10/TRAILandCCL18and, to a lesser exte…
Protective potential of glucagon like peptide 2 (GLP-2) against the neurodegeneration
2019
Neurodegeneration consists in loss of neuron specific types, pattern and distribution, leading to progressive dysfunctions of the central nervous system. Neurodegenerative diseases include diverse pathological conditions, among which Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases are the most prevalent ones. Alzheimer’s disease is known as a growing dementia, characterized by progressive language, memory, and cognitive loss, while Parkinson’s disease is primarily characterized as a motor disorder. Senile plaques, caused by amyloid β peptide, hyperphosphorylated tau-based neurofibrillary tangles and synapse loss, are the principal pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease. Amyloid β oligomer forma…
Comparative International Communication Projects: Overcoming the Challenges
2007
Over the last 10-20 years, comparative research in the feld of communication has almost become fashionable. Many factors are responsible for this, for example: an increased awareness of globalisation as a communication-driven process; an awareness of increased transnational conglomerization of media organizations; and the increasing use of the Internet which facilitates easier access to information around the world. But the big question is how to organize collaborative international communication research efectively? Which models of cooperation are available to us, and what are their advantages and disadvantages? In this article, I analyze fve ways of doing collaborative researches and thei…

Electoral Debates. The Last Stronghold Against Mediatization? A Case Study of the 2015 Spanish General Elections
2018
A perspective analysis: microRNAs, glucose metabolism, and drug resistance in colon cancer stem cells
2021
Metabolism sustains the stemness of Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs), affecting, in turn, tumor heterogeneity, metastatic potential, and therapy resistance. Therefore, it is appealing to target CSCs metabolism as a new therapeutic approach. Consequently, we paid considerable attention to the anti-apoptotic microRNA miR-483-3p, that we reported being regulated by glucose metabolism in liver cancer cells. We investigated the therapeutic potential of targeting miR-483-3p by using the anti-glucose metabolism 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) molecule in tumor Xenograft mouse model originating from two different Colon-Cancer Stem Cell lines (CCSC lines). We show that 2-DG treatment does not affect CCSCs during tumo…
Adipose stromal cells promote the transition of colorectal cancer cells toward a mesenchymal-like phenotype
2021
ABSTRACT Colon cancer progression is among the risks that increase with obesity. We have recently unveiled the molecular mechanism by which adipose tissue-released molecules, HGF and IL-6, make colorectal cancer (CRC) cells acquiring mesenchymal traits. Targeting of adipose-derived factors abrogate the metastatic potential of CRC stem cells (CR-CSCs) in obese patients.
Effective targeting of breast cancer stem cells by combined inhibition of Sam68 and Rad51
2022
AbstractBreast cancer (BC) is the second cause of cancer-related deceases in the worldwide female population. Despite the successful treatment advances, 25% of BC develops resistance to current therapeutic regimens, thereby remaining a major hurdle for patient management. Current therapies, targeting the molecular events underpinning the adaptive resistance, still require effort to improve BC treatment. Using BC sphere cells (BCSphCs) as a model, here we showed that BC stem-like cells express high levels of Myc, which requires the presence of the multifunctional DNA/RNA binding protein Sam68 for the DNA-damage repair. Analysis of a cohort of BC patients displayed that Sam68 is an independen…
