Master's thesis in Civil and structural engineering (BYG508) Recycled aggregate produced from excavation and construction waste is an important resource. This is because increased use of recycled aggregate will contribute to reduce the amount of waste delivered to landfill, which is an important environmental benefit. Recycled aggregate will replace some of the application areas of natural crushed aggregate, this will reduce the extraction of primary raw materials. The focus of this master thesis is to investigate and document variations in mechanical properties of recycled aggregate produced from excavation mass. The purpose of this is to document the stability of mechanical properties and…

Skjærkapasitet av ultrahøyfast fiberarmert betong – verifikasjon av designstandard
2018
Masteroppgave bygg BYG508 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) is a concrete that is still not in use in Norway. This is, as the name implies, a strong concrete, with high ductility from the fibres. To be able to use this concrete in Norway in the future, it is necessary to develop a national standard for UHPFRC. The concrete is in use in some countries, some of these are France, USA, Japan and Canada. The French standard NF P18-710 is based on Eurocode 2, but it is customized for UHPFRC. The method to calculate the shear capacity is different, both because of the concrete and because of the use of fibres. To calculate how much the fibres wi…
Silica Green Stone as an SCM in concrete paving stones production : In order to reduce the total environmental footprint
2021
Master's thesis in Civil and structural engineering (BYG508) The cement industry is responsible for around 7% of the global CO2 emissions. Reducing this number has been on the forefront of the industry's mind for decades, but even with constant improvement and constant reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne cement used, the increasing globalization has kept the emissions high. Research in the industry has discovered supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), that when partly replacing cement will produce most of the same results. SCMs are by-products from other industries and natural progression has led to the need for new ones. This thesis is, together with UiA, Aaltvedt Betong, SINTEF and…
Post weld heat treatment of welded low alloyed steel pipes : Use of AISI 4130 steel in hydrogen sulfide environment and its post weld heat treatment …
2019
Master's Thesis Civil and Constructional Engineering BYG508 - University of Agder 2019 Based on the results from pre-projectand workcovered by this thesis, no better alternatives to AISI 4130 material was found, neither could it be safely concluded for removal of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 requirementsin any parts of high-pressure drilling fluid system. SinceAISI 4130 hasshown to be the optimal choice for the system,it was decided to look forimprovementsof welding procedure by optimization ofpost weld heat treatmentforthis steel.Heat treatment is an expansive and time-consuming procedure that,if not done correctly, could weaken the materialand jeopardize the safetyof the system.Inthis thesis, whi…
The effect of Mo and Ge reactive elements on high-temperature oxidation of higher manganese silicide
2021
Abstract Higher manganese silicide (HMS) alloys (Mnx-αMoαSiy-βGeβ (x = 0.99–1.011, α = 0.005–0.02, y = 1.75, β = 0.005–0.01)) were studied to elucidate the effect of Mo and Ge pertaining to oxidation. Oxidation experiments were conducted using thermogravimetry and characterized using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Isoconversion experiments below 450 °C, shows that doping (up to 2 at%) raises the oxidation potential of HMS. Isothermally, the oxidation rate reduces buy one order of magnitude by doping on Mn and/or Si sites from 0.5 to 2 at%, revealing that the dopants-based oxides do not lessen the robustness of SiO2 oxide.

The Potsdam Open Source Radio Interferometry Tool (PORT)
2021
The Potsdam Open Source Radio Interferometry Tool (PORT) is the very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) analysis software developed and maintained at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. Chiefly, PORT is tasked with the timely processing of VLBI sessions and post-processing activities supporting the generation of celestial and terrestrial reference frames. In addition, it serves as a framework for research and development within the GFZ's VLBI working group and is part of the tool set employed in educating young researchers. Starting out from VLBI group delays, PORT estimates station and radio sources positions, as well as Earth orientation parameters, tropospheric parameters, a…
CONTRIBUTION OF PSEUDO-FOCUSED SOFT PROTONS TO THE BACKGROUND OF ATHENA
2021
This PhD thesis explores the role of low energy protons, the so-called ‘soft protons', as a component of the background in view of the future ESA's X-ray mission Athena. As a matter of fact, a high level of soft proton flux at the focal plane of Athena can adversely affect the scientific goals of the mission. To prevent this, a correct estimate of the soft proton flux expected at the focal plane of the satellite is fundamental. Such an estimate can be achieved only if the reflectivity of soft protons from the optics is well understood, with efforts on both the experimental and the theoretical sides. To this aim, I applied the model of reflectivity of particles at grazing incidence proposed …
