Complete Measurement of the Λ Electromagnetic Form Factors.
2019
The exclusive process e+e−→ΛΛ¯, with Λ→pπ− and Λ¯→p¯π+, has been studied at s=2.396 GeV for measurement of the timelike Λ electric and magnetic form factors, GE and GM. A data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 66.9 pb−1, was collected with the BESIII detector for this purpose. A multidimensional analysis with a complete decomposition of the spin structure of the reaction enables a determination of the modulus of the ratio R=|GE/GM| and, for the first time for any baryon, the relative phase ΔΦ=ΦE−ΦM. The resulting values are R=0.96±0.14(stat)±0.02(syst) and ΔΦ=37°±12°(stat)±6°(syst), respectively. These are obtained using the recently established and most precise value of …
Controlled Activation of Substrate Templating in Molecular Self-Assembly by Deprotonation
2013
cited By 7; International audience; Templated assembly of organic molecules constitutes a promising approach for fabricating functional nanostructures at surfaces with molecular-scale control. Using the substrate template for steering the adsorbate growth enables creating a rich variety of molecular structures by tuning the subtle balance of intermolecular and molecule–surface interactions. On insulating surfaces, however, surface templating is largely absent due to the comparatively weak molecule–surface interactions compared to metallic substrates. Here, we demonstrate the activation of substrate templating in molecular self-assembly on a bulk insulator by controlled deprotonation of the …
Electronic properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes inside cyclic supermolecules
2006
Possible ways for manipulating carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with cyclic supermolecules are studied using density functional theory. Electronic structure calculations with structure optimizations have been performed for the (4,4) and (8,0) single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) complexed with crown ethers as well as for the (4,0) SWNT with beta-cyclodextrin. A slight polarization of charge in both the nanotube and the supermolecule is observed upon rotaxane complexation, but the interaction is mainly repulsive, and the systems stay 2.8-3.5 A apart. The supermolecule does not affect the electronic band structure of the nanotube significantly within such a configuration. The situation differs notic…
Neutrino interaction classification with a convolutional neural network in the DUNE far detector
2020
The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment is a next-generation neutrino oscillation experiment that aims to measure CP-violation in the neutrino sector as part of a wider physics program. A deep learning approach based on a convolutional neural network has been developed to provide highly efficient and pure selections of electron neutrino and muon neutrino charged-current interactions. The electron neutrino (antineutrino) selection efficiency peaks at 90% (94%) and exceeds 85% (90%) for reconstructed neutrino energies between 2–5 GeV. The muon neutrino (antineutrino) event selection is found to have a maximum efficiency of 96% (97%) and exceeds 90% (95%) efficiency for reconstructed neutrino…
Selectivity of cyclodextrins as a parameter to tune the formation of pseudorotaxanes and micelles supramolecular assemblies. A systematic SANS study
2011

This publication is with permission of the rights owner freely accessible due to an Alliance licence and a national licence (funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation) respectively. We studied the formation of polypseudorotaxanes formed with cyclodextrins (CDs) threading a copolymer chain that forms self-assembled structures in water. The size of the CD cavity was chosen such that it is block selective with respect to the formation of inclusion complexes and therefore in terms of altering the structure of the copolymer self-assemblies in a systematic fashio…

Direct X(3872) production in e+e- collisions
2014
Direct production of the charmonium-like state $X(3872)$ in $e^+e^-$ collisions is considered in the framework of the vector meson dominance model. An order-of-magnitude estimate for the width $\Gamma(X\to e^+e^-)$ is found to be $\gtrsim$0.03 eV. The same approach applied to the $\chi_{c1}$ charmonium decay predicts the corresponding width of the order 0.1 eV in agreement with earlier estimates. Experimental perspectives for the direct production of the $1^{++}$ charmonia in $e^+e^-$ collisions are briefly discussed.
Uncertainty quantification in electromagnetic observables of nuclei
2023
We present strategies to quantify theoretical uncertainties in modern ab-initio calculations of electromagnetic observables in light and medium-mass nuclei. We discuss how uncertainties build up from various sources, such as the approximations introduced by the few- or many-body solver and the truncation of the chiral effective field theory expansion. We review the recent progress encompassing a broad range of electromagnetic observables in stable and unstable nuclei.
In-beam gamma-ray and electron spectroscopy of $^{249,251}$Md
2020
The odd-Z Md251 nucleus was studied using combined γ-ray and conversion-electron in-beam spectroscopy. Besides the previously observed rotational band based on the [521]1/2− configuration, another rotational structure has been identified using γ-γ coincidences. The use of electron spectroscopy allowed the rotational bands to be observed over a larger rotational frequency range. Using the transition intensities that depend on the gyromagnetic factor, a [514]7/2− single-particle configuration has been inferred for this band, i.e., the ground-state band. A physical background that dominates the electron spectrum with an intensity of ≃60% was well reproduced by simulating a set of unresolved ex…
First observation of a baryonic Bc+ decay
2014
A baryonic decay of the $B_c^+$ meson, $B_c^+\to J/\psi p\overline{p}\pi^+$, is observed for the first time, with a significance of $7.3$ standard deviations, in $pp$ collision data collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0$ fb$^{-1}$ taken at center-of-mass energies of $7$ and $8$ $\mathrm{TeV}$. With the $B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+$ decay as normalization channel, the ratio of branching fractions is measured to be \begin{equation*} \frac{\mathcal{B}(B_c^+\to J/\psi p\overline{p}\pi^+)}{\mathcal{B}(B_c^+\to J/\psi \pi^+)} = 0.143^{\,+\,0.039}_{\,-\,0.034}\,(\mathrm{stat})\pm0.013\,(\mathrm{syst}). \end{equation*} The mass of the $B_c^+$ meson is dete…
