Measurement of the azimuthal ordering of charged hadrons with the ATLAS detector

This paper presents a study of the possible ordering of charged hadrons in the azimuthal angle relative to the beam axis in high-energy proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A spectral analysis of correlations between longitudinal and transverse components of the momentum of the charged hadrons, driven by the search for phenomena related to the structure of the QCD field, is performed. Data were recorded with the ATLAS detector at center-of-mass energies of √s=900 GeV and √s=7 TeV. Measurement of hard double-parton interactions inW(???) + 2-jet events at $\sqrt{s}\,=7$ TeV with the ATLAS detector

The production of W bosons in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV has been analysed for the presence of double-parton interactions using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb[superscript −1], collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The fraction of events arising from double-parton interactions, f[superscript (D) over subscript DP], has been measured through the p[subscript T] balance between the two jets and amounts to f[superscript (D) over subscript DP] = 0.08 ± 0.01 (stat.) ± 0.02 (sys.) for jets with transverse momentum p[subscript T] > 20 GeV and rapidity |y| < 2.8. $n$-harmonic coordinates and the regularity of conformal mappings

This article studies the smoothness of conformal mappings between two Riemannian manifolds whose metric tensors have limited regularity. We show that any bi-Lipschitz conformal mapping or $1$-quasiregular mapping between two manifolds with $C^r$ metric tensors ($r > 1$) is a $C^{r+1}$ conformal (local) diffeomorphism. This result was proved in [12, 27, 33], but we give a new proof of this fact. The proof is based on $n$-harmonic coordinates, a generalization of the standard harmonic coordinates that is particularly suited to studying conformal mappings. We establish the existence of a $p$-harmonic coordinate system for $1 < p < \infty$ on any Riemannian manifold.
Conformality and $Q$-harmonicity in sub-Riemannian manifolds

We prove the equivalence of several natural notions of conformal maps between sub-Riemannian manifolds. Our main contribution is in the setting of those manifolds that support a suitable regularity theory for subelliptic $p$-Laplacian operators. For such manifolds we prove a Liouville-type theorem, i.e., 1-quasiconformal maps are smooth. In particular, we prove that contact manifolds support the suitable regularity. The main new technical tools are a sub-Riemannian version of p-harmonic coordinates and a technique of propagation of regularity from horizontal layers.

Can we fit nuclear PDFs with the high-x CLAS data?

AbstractNuclear parton distribution functions (nuclear PDFs) are non-perturbative objects that encode the partonic behaviour of bound nucleons. To avoid potential higher-twist contributions, the data probing the high-x end of nuclear PDFs are sometimes left out from the global extractions despite their potential to constrain the fit parameters. In the present work we focus on the kinematic corner covered by the new high-x data measured by the CLAS/JLab collaboration. By using the Hessian re-weighting technique, we are able to quantitatively test the compatibility of these data with globally analyzed nuclear PDFs and explore the expected impact on the valence-quark distributions at high x.
